STATEMENT FROM BOROUGH PRESIDENT DIAZ RE: Shooting on Heath Avenue

“I offer my most heartfelt condolences to Victor Maldonado’s family as they deal with the news of losing their son to gun violence.  Victor, a young man who just enlisted to serve our country in the United States Navy, was killed while trying to do the right thing and break-up a fight.

“Ending gun violence has been a top priority of mine since I took office. Unfortunately, too many firearms end up in the wrong hands both through legal and illegal means, despite our good work. I once again urge that we come together as one and unite to put an end to these senseless acts of violence, so we can better prevent these crimes and protect innocent people across our city and nation,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

Borough President Diaz’s office will once again host its “Peace in our Streets” initiative on Saturday, October 6, at the Mill Brook Houses on St. Ann’s Avenue. More information is available in the attached flyers. Illegal guns can also be reported to the police by calling 866-GUN-STOP.
