So Cohen got Mental Health? It seems to be a political dead end and it gets zero press coverage. I remember when Margarita López had to settle for that committee. She was then term-limited out of the Council and failed beat Scott Stringer in the race for Manhattan Borough President.

it is crazy that a city council has so many committees … the u.s. senate has about half as many

The following editorial from today’s Daily News notes that Bronx Councilmen Fernando Cabrera, Andrew Cohen and Ritchie Torres are among the 35 of 51 NY City Council members who pledged to abolish lulus. But yesterday, Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito got a near unanimous vote to continue paying such stipends running into tens of thousands of dollars to members who stay on her good side. The editorial says that all 35 who pledged to ban lulus must keep their word by both refusing the money and forcing a vote on complete banishment.

Here is the link to the editorial: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/money-talks-melissa-article-1.1588233#ixzz2rDlzSVGN

So you agree based on this analysis that the Bronx got bumped out of its committeechair positions?

Not a real leader among them.

There was no analysis printed in this article just which council member received what committee assignment and Chair.
However last night on cable channel New York 1 Gerson Borrero said that it was Bronx Bemocratic County Leader Carl Heastie who screwed Councilwoman Annabel Palma in getting a committee chair for Councilwoman Maria Del Carmen Arroyo.
I have not commented yet, and will in my column next week of 100 Percent in the Bronx or Parkchester Newspapers.

First Peter Vallone, Sr., then Gifford Miller, then Christine Quinn, and now Melissa Mark-Viverito. Who will be the next has-been?

Every council speaker ends up believing that they are somehow elected by the city as a whole and that they are going to be the next mayor. But none of them ever makes it out of the primaries, or even gets more than 20% of the vote.
