SENATOR RIVERA'S STATEMENT ON DETECTION OF POLIOVIRUS IN

NEW YORK CITY

 SENATOR RIVERA AND ASSEMBLYMEMBER GONZALEZ ROJAS SENT LETTER TO GOVERNOR HOCHUL WITH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EQUITABLE RESPONSE TO MONKEYPOX/MPV

Senator Rivera wrote a letter with Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas to Governor Kathy Hochul with recommendations to center equity in our State's ongoing response to Monkeypox/MPV, including free vaccine, testing, and treatment for those affected; demographic data of those who have been vaccinated, and funding restoration to support New York City's overall MPV efforts. SENATOR RIVERA MARCHES IN THE

NATIONAL DOMINICAN DAY PARADE

Senator Gustavo Rivera was proud to have marched in the National Dominican Day Parade with New York's Dominican-American community. It was his great honor to share such a joyous and significant occasion with a community that is so important and whose impact is felt in New York City, The Bronx, and especially his district.

SENATOR RIVERA HOSTS FIRST

BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENT IN

BRONX PARK EAST

Senator Gustavo Rivera hosted his first Back to School and Community Resource Fair of the year at the Ben Abrams Playground in Bronx Park East.


During the event, Senator Rivera and his staff distributed more than 500 backpacks, bags of food, and connected those in attendance with a variety of resources and services from local community providers.


Senator Rivera's next Back to School event will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 3:30 PM at St. James Park. Aside from distributing backpacks, the event will also be a job and resource fair where Bronx residents will be able to learn about employment opportunities. 


The number of backpacks is limited and they will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

SENATOR RIVERA CELEBRATES NATIONAL HEALTH CENTER WEEK WITH A VISIT TO

UNION COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER

Senator Gustavo Rivera celebrated National Health Care Center Week with a visit to Union Community Health Center. There are millions of Americans including many Bronxites, who are in need of affordable primary care. Senator Rivera has worked closely with exceptional healthcare centers that go above and beyond to provide critical healthcare to some of our State's most vulnerable populations. 

SENATOR RIVERA HOSTS POP-UP BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT AT WASHINGTON PARK 

Senator Rivera stopped by Washington Park in the Belmont area of his district to host a pop-up backpack giveaway to celebrate the start of the school year! He also took the opportunity to chat with his neighbors about the $2 million he secured to renovate areas of this park including the basketball court and sitting area. 

SENATOR RIVERA HOSTS HARM REDUCTION FORUM AT MONROE COLLEGE

Senator Gustavo Rivera and the 52nd Precinct Community Council hosted a Community Forum on Harm Reduction at Monroe College. They were joined by a number of stakeholders, including representatives of city agencies, harm reduction specialists, and Kingsbridge Heights residents. The forum gave community members the opportunity to discuss the serious concerns affecting the Kingsbridge and Fordham neighborhoods as it relates to syringe litter and public drug use. During the forum, community members learned about the steps being taken by local harm reduction organizations and city agencies in the area to address the issue as well as voice their concerns and potential solutions. 

 SENATOR RIVERA MEETS MEMBER OF THE DOMINICAN SENATE TO DISCUSS HOW TIO HELP THE DOMINICAN DIASPORA IN NEW YORK 

Senator Gustavo Rivera, at the invitation of Senator Luis Sepúlveda, had the opportunity to meet the Honorable Alexis Victoria Yeb, a member of the Dominican Senate. It was his honor to discuss opportunities how elected officials in New York and in the Dominican Republic can collaborate to best serve the Dominican diaspora in New York.

The New York State Senate is currently holding its annual Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is an “Ocean of Possibilities.” Senator Rivera encourages young people to take part in this program and use the last month of summer to hone those reading skills.
