On Sunday, State Senator Gustavo Rivera joined Unity Democratic Club and Riverdale residents at Moss Café to encourage voters to vote “yes” on Proposal 1, the New York Equal Rights Amendment ballot measure.
The team of volunteers knocked on doors and handed out flyers to prospective voters informing them of the importance of Proposal 1. As restrictive laws sweep through other state legislatures, Proposal 1 will secure protections for abortion and against discrimination in the New York State Constitution.
“Anti-abortion and anti-trans measures aim to target the most vulnerable among us, and it has ripple effects for the rest of our rights, for parents, families, and our community as a whole,” said State Senator Gustavo Rivera. “In order to protect our community from these threats, it is essential that voters support the New York Equal Rights Amendment — Proposal 1 — on their ballots this November.”
Morgan Evers, Head of the Prop 1 Task Force for the Unity Democratic Club said, "I am proud to have co-led the efforts by the Unity Democrats to knock on countless doors, phone bank, and engage with our neighbors, urging them to flip over their ballots and protect our reproductive rights at the ballot box."
