MAYOR ADAMS HOLDS IN-PERSON MEDIA AVAILABILITY

Mayor Adams held his normal Tuesday media availability on Monday, since he will be traveling to Washington D.C. to testify before Congress on Sanctuary cities. The mayor opened up by saying we are making New York City the best place to raise a family, keeping New Yorkers safe, and making it more affordable. He said that public safety is the prerequisite to prosperity, adding that he should coin that phrase, which was a take on former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's weekend announcement that he was entering the race for mayor of New York City.

Mayor Adams went on to say that year to date shootings in 2025 are at the lowest level in recorded history, and major crimes were down fifteen percent. The mayor then said that over 80,000 illegal vehicles, cars, moped, dirt bikes, etc over 80,000 have been taken off the streets. He then went into a couple of other programs aimed at high school students to keep them in school and putting them on a path to economic security through good jobs.

Then the questions came about Andrew Cuomo entering the mayor's race. One after another, asking the mayor if he saw the Cuomo video to which the mayor said no. More questions about Andrew Cuomo including one about a lunch Mayor Adams had with then former Governor Cuomo almost three years ago. "Did Andrew tell you he was going to run against you?' one reporter asked. Then finally came a question on ICE on Rikers Island, and a question on immigrants, and the border czar. From there the subject went back to the mayor's race and why was Mayor Adams not attending the mayoral forums. Then it was back to Andrew Cuomo, winding up with a question if Adams would support his police commissioner Jessica Tisch for mayor if she could defeat Cuomo.
