Dear Neighbor,
I'm excited to announce that the installation of 20 new cameras at the Williamsbridge Oval is finally complete. This new equipment and the installation was possible due to a $138,000 capital grant that I allocated in June 2024.
We were joined by community members to urge the Parks Department to prioritize the project after the heartbreaking murder of young Angel Mendoza and the horrific assault of a woman in September. Now our recreation center has a total of 20 cameras installed, including 14 interior units and 6 exterior units.
The breakdown is as follows:
First Floor
Lobby: 3
Fitness room: 3
Game room: 2
Second Floor
2nd floor hallway / vestibule: 2
Computer room: 2
Multi purpose room: 2
Exterior
Front entrance: 2
Rear entrance : 2
Staircase near women’s outdoor bathroom: 1
Staircase near men’s outdoor bathroom: 1
With 20 new cameras installed, it is my hope that those who enjoy this beloved Bronx park will feel much safer. I am committed to partnering with all of my neighbors to make our district a safer place to raise our families and enjoy our community.
Sincerely,
Gustavo Rivera
