Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson - Community Resources & Updates

Dear Neighbor,

We are excited to announce that two new schools are coming to the Bronx!

The Bronx School of Hip-Hop will offer a groundbreaking high school experience rooted in hip-hop culture, where students engage in disciplines such as emceeing, DJing, graffiti, and audio and digital media, all woven into a rigorous academic framework.

The Bronx School of Arts & Explorationa District 75 K–8 school, will provide students with disabilities an arts-centered learning environment that integrates academics with hands-on, project-based instruction tailored to their diverse needs.

Both of these educational institutions will open their doors this fall to a new cohort of scholars, providing them with hands-on experiential learning that will prepare them to lead with creativity, confidence, and purpose.

During my time as Borough President, we have been intentional in our support for our Bronx schools, investing over $90 million to ensure our students have the tools they need to succeed and to become the leaders of tomorrow. We look forward to the opening of these two new schools and to the continued progress and promise they represent for our Bronx families.

Exciting news also for our Bronx green spaces. We just celebrated the transformation of a vacant lot into a new parkland at Grant Park. The reconstruction includes:

  •    A beautiful natural lawn
  •    A full basketball court
  •    Fitness amenities
  •    New spaces for recreation & more!

This project is a result of our Jerome Neighborhood Plan, which we supported in the New York City Council, and it reflects the dedication of all the advocates who pushed to make this vision a reality.

Lastly, we are also excited to celebrate the continuation of Bronx Week 2026! If you haven`t already, visit our website or ilovethebronx.com for a full list of events highlighting the people and places that make the Bronx the best place to live, work, and visit. And we are just getting started!

Warm Regards,

Vanessa L. Gibson

IN THE COMMUNITY

Our borough mourns the loss of iconic sports broadcaster and Key to the Borough recipient, John Sterling. A legendary voice whose impact reached far beyond our borough and reached homes across our nation.

We send prayers of healing and strength to his family, the New York Yankees and all who were fortunate to know him during his time with us on this planet. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of fans everywhere.

May he rest in peace.

Standing with residents and partners at today’s RGB press conference, we made one thing clear: affordability in New York City is not optional—it’s essential.

Thank you to NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the Office of Mass Engagement, the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants, Council Member Althea Stevens, CASA Bronx, and the residents of 760 Grand Concourse for standing together.

This is about protecting tenants, preserving affordability, and ensuring every New Yorker has a place to call home.

Bronx Week 2026 is officially underway!

The kickoff brought together community, culture, and Bronx pride as we geared up for another unforgettable celebration of our borough.

A special shoutout to this year’s Bronx Walk of Fame inductees: Roberto “Fanum” Escanio, Dominican-American content creator and streamer; Lenny “Lenny S” Santiago, veteran music business executive; Darlene Rodriguez, American journalist and co-anchor of Today in New York on WNBC; and Darrin Henson, choreographer, dancer, actor, and producer. Each represents the excellence and impact that define the Bronx.

Thank you to our incredible emcee, April Rose Castillo, for setting the tone, and to our partners at Storyland: A Bronx Book Haven for hosting us in such a vibrant space.

We’re grateful to everyone who showed up and continues to support Bronx Week year after year. This is just the beginning.

We stood together in the Bronx for our annual Denim Day March, uplifting survivors, raising awareness, and reaffirming our commitment to ending sexual violence.

We were proud to march alongside community leaders, advocates, and partners, joined by NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, Council Member Amanda Farías, and Council Member Althea Stevens, among many others dedicated to this important cause.

Denim Day is more than a march, it’s a movement rooted in solidarity, education, and justice.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke out, and continues to stand with survivors.

Our Greek Heritage Month celebration in Kingsbridge was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us to highlight our thriving Greek American community in the Bronx.
