Pelham Parkway Closed Due to Overturned Truck/Ambulance Accident

At around 6:30 AM a box truck going south on Williamsbridge Road was hit by an ambulance traveling east on the main road of Pelham Parkway, causing the truck to flip on its side. Police closed Williamsbridge Road both ways at Pelham Parkway, and the Eastbound Pelham Parkway at Williamsbridge Road until 10 AM when both vehicles were removed and the street was cleaned of debris from the accident.

The driver of the truck and two ambulance workers were taken to the hospital for observation. Lucky today was a school holiday so traffic was much lighter than usual, as was the normally heavy pedestrian traffic at the intersection. Initial observation of the accident said that the truck was going through the intersection, and the Ambulance hit the truck in the rear wheel pushing it to the curb where the truck flipped on its side. Both vehicles were totaled. The ambulance was empty and not responding to an emergency.

The front end of the ambulance was mangled, and the box truck is lying on its side is in the background.

The ambulance is loaded onto the tow truck as you can see parts of the ambulance on the sidewalk and street from the accident.

Parts of the front end of the ambulance are being taken out of the truck  wheel well by the tow truck worker.

When the truck was uprighted some of its cargo fell out a side door.

Police officers divert traffic off the main road of Pelham Parkway onto its North Service Road.
