News, updates and more from NYC Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

AL QUIÑONES PLAYGROUND

A promise fulfilled - We gathered to celebrate the renaming of Playground 52 to ‘Al Quiñones Playground’, honoring one of the Bronx’s greatest figures.

Future generations will now have the opportunity to learn more about this local champion of equality and Latino culture, inspiring them to follow his example by serving their own neighborhoods through public service.

PUERTO RICAN POWER SALSA CONCERT

Despite the rain, Salsa in the Bronx Season kicked off with a bang at Al Quiñones Playground thanks to Luisito Ayala y la Puerto Rican Power!

Freddy Perez Jr, Acacia Network, and Bronx Community Board 2 for co-sponsoring an incredible concert for our community!

JULIO CARBALLO FIELDS FAMILY FUN DAY

Team Salamanca, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, Urban Health Plan, Inc., and Bronx Community Board 2 helped kick off the Summer season with a Family Fun Day at Julio Carballo Fields!

A day full of laughter, face-painting, and obstacle courses concluded with our first ‘Movies Under the Stars’ screening of the year.

METRO NORTH WALKTHROUGH

In preparation for the Metro North coming to the Bronx, I spearheaded a walkthrough with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA, Assembly Member Kenny Burgos, and Senator Luis R. Sepúlveda at Starlight Park.

We had a productive discussion about the installation timeline of the 2 new proposed rail lines and the maintenance space that would be needed for efficient operation.
