Dear Neighbor,
Happy October and happy fall! As the leaves change, the heating season begins. We want to remind tenants that:
- From October 1 through May 31, New York City building owners must maintain an indoor temperature of at least 68 degrees between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. if the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees.
- Between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, the indoor temperature must be at least 62 degrees Fahrenheit (there is no outside temperature requirement).
If your apartment is without heat, please contact your landlord or management immediately. If they do not respond or fail to address the issue, you can file a complaint with the NYC311 Online Portal, call 311 to request an inspector from the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), or call our office for assistance. Our team is here to support tenants, and we want to ensure every Bronx resident stays safe and warm throughout the fall and winter seasons.
We also recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On October 1st, we stood in solidarity with advocates and survivors at our Resource Fair at Lou Gehrig Plaza, and we will continue to host events throughout the month. We encourage residents to join us, learn about available resources, and stand with survivors and families affected by these issues.
Lastly, we are continuing our Farmers Market pop-ups throughout the borough as part of our Bronx Says NO to Hunger campaign. As part of this initiative, we are distributing Health Bucks so our residents can purchase fruits and vegetables at participating greenmarkets and farm stands. We are proud to connect Bronx families with resources that make fresh, healthy food more accessible and affordable. Keep an eye out for our next pop-up dates, and join us as we continue to bring Health Bucks to communities across the Bronx.
Warm Regards,
Vanessa L. Gibson
Bronx Borough President

This past Sunday, we pedaled through history at the 32nd Annual Tour de Bronx, one of New York City’s largest FREE biking events! PIX11’s very own James Ford kicked us off at the launch, and from there, thousands of riders took to the streets across three routes.
From City Island and Orchard Beach to Woodlawn Cemetery, Riverdale, and Mott Haven, riders experienced some of the Bronx’s most beautiful neighborhoods, parks, waterfronts, and points of interest before crossing the finish line at the New York Botanical Garden.
A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors, partners, volunteers, and everyone who came out to ride with us.

We gathered at Lou Gehrig Plaza for an important press conference addressing the need for urgent policy changes to support survivors of sexual assault.
I was proud to stand alongside Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz, Senator Nathalia Fernandez, Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, advocates, and my colleagues in government as we called for immediate action to be taken in Albany to pass legislation that ensures survivors receive justice.
