Wall Street First-Half Profits Soar to Nearly $46 Billion

Wall Street is on pace for a far stronger year than anticipated, with profits reaching $45.9 billion in the first half of 2026, up 51.3% from the same period last year, according to a report released by Comptroller DiNapoli. First-half profits have already surpassed New York City’s $45.3 billion forecast for the entire year, and if the pace of growth continues, profits could exceed $90 billion in 2026. Barring a recession or major market disruption, strong profits should continue to provide an important boost to state and city revenue.

Comptroller DiNapoli recently released the State’s 2026 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and Financial Condition Report (FCR), providing comprehensive views of New York’s finances for the State Fiscal Year that ended March 31, 2026. The ACFR provides detailed financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), along with extensive supporting and historical information. The FCR presents key metrics on the State’s finances, spending and economy, as well as demographic trends in a visual format that is accessible for everyday New Yorkers.
School Building Access Audits Find Room for Improvement
Comptroller DiNapoli released a report summarizing the findings and recommendations from a series of 20 school district audits that examined how the schools managed and monitored school building access. The report highlights how school officials could better manage accounts and devices to help improve building security and safety for students, teachers, staff and visitors.
Couple Convicted in $13M Federal Fraud Scheme
The Office of the New York State Comptroller, working with federal law enforcement partners, helped stop a couple who orchestrated a nationwide scheme to defraud the public. Comptroller DiNapoli stated, “Thanks to the vigilance of my office and our work with our federal law enforcement partners, the couple be held accountable for their crimes. I thank the United States Attorney's Office and federal Department of Transportation Inspector General's office for their partnership and excellent work allowing justice to be served.”
