SENATOR RIVERA JOINS ONCE AGAIN THE CARING MAJORITY RISING CALLING TO DELAY CDPAP TRANSITION
![]() |
This week, Senator Rivera joined another press conference with the Caring Majority Rising to urge the Executive to move the April 1st deadline for the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) transition to a single fiscal intermediary.
Many enrollees and caregivers are experiencing issues with the registration process including long wait times or lack of information or materials other than English. That’s why this week, the State Health Commissioner announced that they will not extend the deadline, but will open a “registration window” for those who have not completed the transition.
This means that those who do not complete the transition by March 31st will still be able to do so by April 30th. However, their payment will be processed retroactively (payments will be withheld until the enrollmen is complete).
"The Department of Health announcement about the ‘late registration window’ is just a recognition of what we’ve always said: April 1st doesn’t work. Commissioner McDonald knows that many workers and patients will be left out after the deadline, yet he expects only a retroactive payment to solve the problem. Unfortunately, rent, food and the necessities of care can’t wait for a retroactive payment. Let’s focus on the well-being of patients and home care workers. So once again, Governor Hochul, please extend the deadline!," said Senator Rivera.
While Senator Rivera will continue working to convince the Governor to extend the deadline, it’s crucial to complete the transition as soon as possible through PPL.(phone: 1-833-247-5346 / 1-833-204-9042)
SENATOR RIVERA JOINS LABOR UNIONS TO DEMAND THE PASSAGE OF THE NEW YORK HEALTH ACT
![]() |
New York is in the grip of an affordability crisis and skyrocketing healthcare costs are pushing working families to the brink. That’s why this week, Senator Rivera stood with union members to demand the passage of the New York Health Act (NYHA).
"Every New Yorker deserves access to quality healthcare, and I am committed to building an even stronger coalition to make the NYHA a reality. Let’s put the health of our people first!," said Senator Rivera.
The NYHA (S.3425), which Senator Rivera has sponsored since 2015, would replace existing private insurance plans for every single worker and resident and include all benefits covered by Medicare, Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and those mandated by the affordable care act. Support the NYHA here!
SENATOR RIVERA JOINS ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT THE NEW PRIDE AGENDA IN THE UPCOMING BUDGET

This week, Senator Rivera joined various organizations at a press conference to support investments in the upcoming budget to protect Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) New Yorkers. These New Yorkers are facing unprecedented challenges due to the ongoing attacks by the federal government, which are seeking to roll back LGBTQIA+ protections and imposing restrictive definitions of sex and gender.
"I will always stand for access to the resources that protect the TGNC community. Hate has no place in New York, and as an ally, I’m ready to fight every necessary battle," said Senator Rivera

This week, Senator Rivera joined a Protect Our Care New York virtual press conference alongside Congressmembers Dan Goldman, Pat Ryan, and Tim Kennedy, and Assembly Health Chair Amy Paulin to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act.
The Affordable Care Act turned 15 years old on March 23, and dismantling President Obama's landmark law remains a top Republican priority. More Americans than ever rely on it today: 24.2 million Americans are enrolled in quality coverage through the marketplaces. However, Republicans want to take away tax credits that make coverage more affordable for middle-class families, causing costs to skyrocket and millions of Americans to lose critical coverage.
"The current administration's attacks on the ACA and Medicaid will hurt families and raise costs for working Americans while aiming to give the ultra wealthy huge tax cuts. How can we make our country healthy again, as they like to say, if we cut the program that provides healthcare to most Americans? We must fight to protect affordable, quality care for every New Yorker," said Senator Rivera.
