#NYCC: Corey Taylor To Pen HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES Comic with Dark Horse!

COREY TAYLOR TO PEN
HOUSE OF GOLD & BONES COMIC!
A multimedia presence includes two upcoming Stone Sour albums and more!
October 10, NEW YORK, NY—Grammy-nominated musician and best-selling author Corey Taylor, the lyricist and lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour, is setting down the microphone and putting ink and images to paper in his new project with Dark Horse Comics—House of Gold & Bones
With stunning covers from Jason Shawn Alexander (Empty Zone, Abe Sapien), this limited four-issue series marks Corey Taylor’s debut in the comics genre. “I’ve been a die-hard fan of comics, on every level, my entire life,” says Taylor. “This has been a dream of mine for years now, and this project was tailor made for a comic, no pun intended. I couldn’t have picked a better company than Dark Horse to make this a reality. I have loved several of their titles for many years, going back to ’92. If we can get this crazy world out of my head and onto the canvas, it’ll be the best thing I’ve ever attempted. And with Dark Horse, I have every confidence that’s exactly what we’ll do.”
House of Gold & Bones is a unique multimedia experience which includes two Stone Sour albums via Roadrunner Records (release date for Part 1 is October 22, with Part 2 following in 2013), videos, online presence, creative album packaging, live shows, and now the Dark Horse Comics series. Each element will follow and expand on the story. Taylor, already an internationally best-selling author, courtesy of last year’s Seven Deadly Sins, wrote the story—as well as the lyrics for the twenty-three tracks that make up the two albums—as a linear story line. The Stone Sour songs set the tone and follow the action, with Taylor’s House of Gold & Bones comic expanding on the story.
Corey Taylor will be signing in the Dark Horse Booth at New York Comic Con Saturday, October 12 at 3 p.m.
Stone Sour’s House of Gold & Bones Part 1 album is on sale October 22, 2012!
House of Gold & Bones issue #1 is on sale April 17, 2013!

Limited Number of Special Edition Prototype ePlate™ Devices To Be Distributed At An Exclusive Event

October 9, New York – Dark Horse Comics will reveal two new exclusive comic book series for the ePlate™ payment device at New York Comic Con.

The Dark Horse experience™ application is a payments application for the new battery-powered ePlate™ credit card.

With every purchase, card carrying comics fans can earn exclusive issues of two new series of Dark Horse comics.  The first exclusive series is Conan: The Phantoms of the Black Coast.  The second exclusive series is a team-up of Dark Horse characters X, Ghost and Captain Midnight!

To celebrate, Dark Horse will be hosting a signing with Dark Horse president, Mike Richardson, as well as Ghost artist, Phil Noto, and Captain Midnight writer, Joshua Williamson at New York Comic Con on Friday October 12 at 10AM in booth #1528, and will distribute  a limited number of  special edition prototype, demonstration ePlate™ devices to attendees.

At any time, an ePlate™ user  can select to use the Dark Horse experience™ application for the ePlate™ payment device.  The Dark Horse application allows users to earn pages of exclusive Dark Horse comic books with each purchase.  After all pages of a particular comic are obtained, the user is provided with a complete digital comic.  After a certain number of digital comic books are collected, Dark Horse provides, at no cost to the user, a collectible print copy of each exclusive comic book earned, unavailable anywhere else!

“Dark Horse will not only introduce two new exclusive comic book series, this will also introduce a revolutionary new way to earn and experience comics” said Mike Richardson, president and founder of Dark Horse.

“Conan and the new team-up are an amazing set of properties to feature on the new ePlate™ platform,” said Jeff Mullen, CEO of Dynamics. “Consumers can now receive comics just by living their life – just by using their ePlate™ device  to pay for meals,  comic books, movie tickets, or any other everyday item.”

The ePlate™ payment device is subject to a credit approval.

About the Dynamics ePlate™ Payment Device
Dynamics' ePlate™ payment device is a paper-thin, flexible computing platform in a payment card format.  The device includes the Electronic Stripe® -- the world's first fully card-programmable magnetic stripe.  The Electronic Stripe® can be read at any existing point-of-sale (POS) magnetic stripe reader.  The device includes two buttons – one for a first experience and one for a second experience.  Based on which experience option was selected, the device changes the information on the Electronic Stripe™ to reflect the selected experience so the user can swipe the card in any store and enjoy the selected experience.

A user can change the experiences associated with the buttons on the ePlate™ device at any time.  All a user has to do is use the Dynamics Experience Manager™ software through their favorite phone or accessible through their online banking account.  The Experience Manager™ provides an ecosystem of experiences that can be assigned to the buttons on a user’s ePlate™ device.

The ePlate™ device is as durable as a traditional payment card and will last over three years on a single battery charge. The technology does not require any change to the 60 million 1970s-era magnetic stripe readers or reeducation of its merchant base.

Batman’s Shrink & Other Scholars Enlighten New York Comic Con

Batman’s Shrink & Other Scholars Enlighten New York Comic Con
Comics scholars convene at this week’s New York Comic Con to teach convention-goers and have fun too. In addition to all the cosplay, comic book creator signings, and entertainment news panels, New York Comic Con is home to a number of professional panels as well. A good portion of these professional talks will be under the umbrella of the Comics Studies Conference. Organized by the Institute for Comics Studies, the CSC serves to promote the study, understanding, recognition, and cultural legitimacy of comics and support the discussion and dissemination of this study and understanding.  The Comics Studies Conference, organized by scholars like Peter Coogan and Stanford Carpenter, represents the Institute for Comics Studies’ mission to promote the study, understanding, recognition, and cultural legitimacy of comics and to support the discussion and dissemination of this study and understanding via public venues.
CSC co-organizer Travis Langley, author of the hit book BATMAN AND PSYCHOLOGY: A DARK AND STORMY KNIGHT, is a Special Guest at NYCC this year, in the literary category shared by Spotlight Guests Anne Rice and Kim Harrison. “It is a terrific book,” legendary comic book writer Dennis O’Neil says of Batman and Psychology. Bat-Films executive producer Michael Uslan calls it, “scholarly and insightful… a fascinating, entertaining, and educational read.”
Comics Studies Conference NYCC 2012 Schedule
Date: Thursday, October 11

Evan Johnson (UT-Dallas) explores the sublimination of female power in the Marvel Universe. Moderator: Stanford Carpenter.
6:30-7:30 pm: Constructing and Reconstructing the Superhero. “Simply speaking, this is my pick for the best book of 2012.” – FindYourGeek.com
Batman is one of the most compelling and enduring characters to come from the Golden Age of Comics, and interest in his story has only increased through countless incarnations since his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Why does this superhero without superpowers fascinate us? What does that fascination say about us? Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight (Wiley; Paperback; $17.95; 978-1-1181-6765-6/ Also available in digital and audio forms) explores these and other intriguing questions about the masked vigilante, including: Does Batman have PTSD?  Why does he fight crime? Why as a vigilante? Why the mask, the bat, and the underage partner? Why are his most intimate relationships with “bad girls” he ought to lock up? And why won't he kill that homicidal, green-haired clown?
