Imagine Ted Cruz Coming to the South Bronx

You should know that on Monday, March 23, 2015, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced his candidacy for the 2016 GOP nomination for President of the United States. Ted Cruz spoke at Liberty University, the largest Christian university in the world, asking us all to "Imagine millions of courageous conservatives rising up.”
To follow up on Ted Cruz’s speech, and to use his Imagine theme, I would like to make the following observations:
Imagine Ted Cruz traveling to the Bronx where there is a grassroots army of Black and Hispanic Evangelical Christians who are just like him - and who have been ignored by every Presidential candidate.
Imagine Ted Cruz coming to the South Bronx where there are many of Hispanic Evangelical Churches that are willing to stand together for liberty - to encourage us and let us know that he is one of us.
Imagine Ted Cruz being willing to break another rule and come to the South Bronx to show his respect for our Black and Hispanic communities, and also to break bread with our Evangelical leaders.
This is why I am extending an invitation to Ted Cruz to come to the Bronx to join together with the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization onSaturday, April 18th for our Annual Minister’s Banquet - and I am asking Ted Cruz to bring with him the gift of hope.
Ladies and gentlemen, imagine Ted Cruz accepting this invitation and coming to the Bronx: "Think just how different the world would be.

Free legal consultation will be offered on criminal issues, NYCHA, tenant & landlord issues, public assistance, wills, healthcare proxies, contract disputes, family law issues and civil litigations.
The free legal consultation is a partnership between the Office of Council Member Andy King and CUNY School of Law as a part of the Community Legal Resource Network.

Join us for a week of bird-inspired activities and art-making, followed by drop-in science explorations, then come back for more over the weekend! Programs are geared to children between the ages of five and 10 with a parent or caregiver. Today, we look at how birds fly. Study their wing structure, then using a simple building technique, assemble a flyable kite with wings as your inspiration. Fashion your kite with color and flare to make a real or imagined migrator. $25/$15 Wave Hill Member per session includes one child and one adult; additional child or adult $10. Join us for this drop-in program following the art workshop in the morning. Make paper airplanes to recreate different patterns of bird flight, and test how weight distribution and wing shape influence flight. Quiet like a mountain, moving like a river, Tai Chi is a sequence of gentle movements based on images found in nature. Owls are creatures who swallow their prey whole. Parts of the prey, such as bones, feathers and fur are bound up during digestion into a tight pellet, which the owl regurgitates. WILLIAMS CONDEMNS HIGH NUMBER OF WEEKEND YOUTH SHOOTINGS IN THE CITY
Council Member Jumaane D. Williams,Deputy Leader and co-chair of the Council's Task Force to Combat Gun Violence, released the following statement after at least four people under the age of 21 were shot last weekend throughout the five boroughs.
STATEMENT FROM COUNCIL MEMBER WILLIAMS
"At what point are words not enough to express heartache and frustration about tragic shootings like those that took place over the weekend, including one that claimed the life of a teenage boy and another that injured a young baby girl. My prayers for comfort, peace and healing are with the victims' families after each of these tragic incidents.
"As we wait for further details to unfold in these cases, it's not enough to just stand by. We do know, however, that the teenager's life was taken just across the street from a McDonald's on Flatbush Avenue which was the recent scene of graphic, disturbing youth violence widely seen on social media. It is clear that this area of Flatbush Avenue is in desperate need of attention. Simply adding more police cannot be the only answer. As a community, each of us must demand real change so we stop seeing incidents like this from happening where our youth reside. We must also deal with the supply of guns our kids have access to, and their misguided penchant for deadly violence as a response to disputes.
"As we get deeper into budget season, our city and state will begin to prioritize initiatives to fund. During this process, it's imperative that our city fund more effective ways to positively engage youth, as well as to fully equip every community so they become the village that can raise a child.
"This year, let's not accept as fact that just because we are approaching warmer months that gun violence has to increase. It doesn't. It's my hope that with a bold stance and joint city/community efforts, we will put an end to tragedies like these by lowering the gun violence rate once and for all."
