Bronx Borough President Candidate Fernando Cabrera Visits 100 Year Old Conti Pastry Shop

Conti's Pastry Shop has been in business for one-hundred years at 786 Morris Park Avenue. Mr. Sal Paljevic has been the owner the past twenty years, and he has kept up the top quality products Conti Pastry Shop is famous for.

Friday Bronx Borough President candidate City Councilman Fernando Cabrera came to Conti's to chat for a while with Morris Park Community Association President and Community Board 11 Chair Al D'Angelo, Sal Conforto, Owner of the Bronx Chronicle, Sal Paljevic the owner of Conti's Pastry shop, and this reporter to talk about community needs.

Several items were mentioned starting with public safety. Everyone agreed a person must feel safe in their homes and on the streets of their community. Quality of life, good schools, overdevelopment, affordable housing, and mass transit were among the topics discussed during the next borough president's visit. The Bronx Chronicle as well as Mr. Al D'Angelo have already endorsed Fernando Cabrera for Bronx Borough President, and this reporter has predicted Fernando Cabrera as the next Bronx Borough President after Ruben Diaz Jr.

Governor Cuomo Updates New Yorkers on State Vaccination Program - May 28, 2021

76,027 Doses Administered in the Last 24 Hours

611,745 Doses Administered Over Past Seven Days

Vaccine Dashboard Updated Daily on the State's Vaccine Program Here

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today updated New Yorkers on the state's vaccination program. 76,027 doses have been administered across the state's vast distribution network in the last 24 hours, and 611,745 doses have been administered statewide over the past seven days.

"The COVID vaccine is the weapon that will win the war, and the faster everyone takes it, the faster we defeat this beast and return to normal," Governor Cuomo said. "While thousands of New Yorkers are getting their vaccine every day, the overall vaccination rate has slowed and we are exploring any and all options to get more shots in arms. From the establishment of pop-up sites to the implementation of vaccine incentives, it's never been easier, or more beneficial, to get vaccinated. So, if you have not yet received your shot, please do the right thing and go get vaccinated—if we are to reach the light at the end of the tunnel, everyone needs to do their part."

All New York State mass vaccination sites are now open to eligible New Yorkers for walk-in vaccination on a first come first serve basis. The walk-in appointments are reserved for first doses only with second doses to be scheduled automatically after administration of the initial shot. In addition, all vaccine providers are encouraged to allow walk-in appointments for eligible New Yorkers. People who would prefer to schedule an appointment at a state-run mass vaccination site can do so on the Am I Eligible App or by calling 1-833-NYS-4-VAX. People may also contact their local health department, pharmacy, doctor or hospital to schedule appointments where vaccines are available, or visit vaccines.gov to find information on vaccine appointments near them.

NYS COMPTROLLER DiNAPOLI: BEWARE TEXT MESSAGE SCAM TARGETING RETIREES

Text or Other Messages Asking for Money for Bogus “Upgrade” of Retirement Plan Are Fraudulent

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today warned retirees not to be fooled if they received text messages or other communications that purport to come from the state’s retirement fund and the Office of the State Comptroller, asking for a payment to “upgrade” the retirement fund. It’s a scam. Report the message to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov or by calling the Albany FBI Field Office at 518-465-7551 or 1-800-CALLFBI.

“I want to be very clear to our system’s retirees and members — these are phony messages from scammers trying to steal your money,” DiNapoli said. “The fund has not, and does not, send out any electronic messages asking for payment for upgrades. Don’t be fooled. Protect yourself by not responding and by reporting these messages to law enforcement if you get one.”

The sham messages attempt to trick recipients into making a payment for “an upgrade” in exchange for reduced taxes, additional money added to their funds and other benefits.

New Yorkers can report allegations of fraud involving the retirement system or taxpayer money by calling the Comptroller’s toll-free Fraud Hotline at 1-888-672-4555, by filing a complaint online at, investigations@osc.ny.gov, or by mailing a complaint to: Office of the State Comptroller, Division of Investigations, 8th Floor, 110 State St., Albany, NY 12236.

William Rivera - I’m running for NYC Council District 18. I hope you’ll take a moment to read my vision for the Bronx.

Friend—

My name is William Rivera. And I’m running to represent the 18th District (Bronx) in the NYC Council. I hope you’ll take a moment to read more about why I’m running and my vision for the future of the Bronx. And if you support my campaign (or even if you’re just curious to learn more), please consider adding your name to say you’re with me.

I’ve lived in the same neighborhood in the Parkchester area of the Bronx my entire life. And from a young age, I’ve served my community.

I started my career in the NYC Fire Department for 12 years, then served as a state committeeman and district leader, and was eventually elected Chairman of the Bronx Community Board 9.

In my current role as District Manager, I’ve distributed food to residents in our district, secured funding for many capital projects, and founded the Cross Bronx Expressway Initiative.

I’m running for NYC Council because I truly believe we need representation at all levels of government that knows who their constituents are and how to advocate for them.

Both personally and professionally, I have scoured every square block of the 18th District, developing a keen understanding of what the people and businesses are looking for in representation at City Hall.

I want to bring that experience of knowing this district and its residents to City Hall. And I hope you’ll give me the opportunity. So please, consider adding your name to say you’re with me in this race.

ADD MY NAME

You can read more about my campaign and my priorities for the Bronx on my website. And you can follow me on social media on Facebook and Instagram

Thanks for joining me on the start of this journey,

William Rivera
