49th Precinct Breakfast Honoring the Police Officers and Community Leaders

 

Friday morning was the 32nd Annual 49th Precinct Fellowship Conference hosted by the 49th Precinct and the 49th Precinct Community Council. Over one-Hundred people were in attendance at this live event as the city, state and country emerge from the 2020 Pandemic. 

Councilman Mark Gjonaj, Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez, Deputy Inspector Andrew Natiw of the 49th Precinct, and Joe Thompson the President of the 49th Precinct Council spoke with Community Affairs officer James Graham as the Master of Ceremonies. Auxiliary Police Officer Award to Mr. Sylvester Heggie, Police Administrative award posthumously to Ms. Giacomina, and Explorer of the Year to Carlos Alonzo.

Detective Jay Sturdivant was named Cop of the Year, and he thanks everyone saying that he loves his job, and the 49th Precinct.

Mr. Al D'Angelo received the Tom Twyman - Citizen Award as Community Board 11 Chairman, and President of the Morris Park Community Association.

Mr. Joe Kelleher received the Business Fellowship Award as President of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, and Vice-President of Simone Developers.

Deputy Inspector Andrew Natiw had some bad news for the audience, saying that he has neared the end of his term as precinct Commander of the 49th Precinct having been the CO now for over two tears the normal time one is in charge of a precinct house.

Statement From Governor Cuomo on Indoor Dining Curfew Being Lifted

 

 "During the month of May we took major steps towards reopening our economy and as of May 31, we are lifting the midnight curfew on indoor dining for bars and restaurants across New York.

"Like every other milestone of our reopening, the end of curfew for indoor dining is the result of New Yorkers banding together, practicing safety precautions and getting vaccinated, so we can defeat the virus and work our way towards a new normal.

"Our reopening approach has always been data-based and if we want to stay on our current trajectory, we need to remain vigilant across the board - especially when it comes to indoor activities. As always, we will continue to work with our local partners to make sure venues are following basic safety guidelines."

 Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that the statewide 7-day average positivity rate dropped to 0.67 percent yesterday, a new low.

The Governor also announced that more than 19 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in New York State.

"We continue to make progress and we are on the verge of defeating COVID-19 for good, but it's vital that we continue to get as many shots in arms as we can," Governor Cuomo said. "We're establishing new pop-up sites across the state and are offering incentives to encourage those who haven't yet received a shot to take it. New Yorkers have fought this terrible virus every step of the way through an unimaginably difficult time, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but getting everyone vaccinated as soon as possible is critical to New York's future public health and economic recovery."

Bronx Borough President Candidate Fernando Cabrera Visits 100 Year Old Conti Pastry Shop

 

Conti's Pastry Shop has been in business for one-hundred years at 786 Morris Park Avenue. Mr. Sal Paljevic has been the owner the past twenty years, and he has kept up the top quality products Conti Pastry Shop is famous for. 

Friday Bronx Borough President candidate City Councilman Fernando Cabrera came to Conti's to chat for a while with Morris Park Community Association President and Community Board 11 Chair Al D'Angelo, Sal Conforto, Owner of the Bronx Chronicle, Sal Paljevic the owner of Conti's Pastry shop, and this reporter to talk about community needs.  

Several items were mentioned starting with public safety. Everyone agreed a person must feel safe in their homes and on the streets of their community. Quality of life, good schools, overdevelopment, affordable housing, and mass transit were among the topics discussed during the next borough president's visit. The Bronx Chronicle as well as Mr. Al D'Angelo have already endorsed Fernando Cabrera for Bronx Borough President, and this reporter has predicted Fernando Cabrera as the next Bronx Borough President after Ruben Diaz Jr.

76,027 Doses Administered in the Last 24 Hours

611,745 Doses Administered Over Past Seven Days

 Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today updated New Yorkers on the state's vaccination program. 76,027 doses have been administered across the state's vast distribution network in the last 24 hours, and 611,745 doses have been administered statewide over the past seven days.

"The COVID vaccine is the weapon that will win the war, and the faster everyone takes it, the faster we defeat this beast and return to normal," Governor Cuomo said. "While thousands of New Yorkers are getting their vaccine every day, the overall vaccination rate has slowed and we are exploring any and all options to get more shots in arms. From the establishment of pop-up sites to the implementation of vaccine incentives, it's never been easier, or more beneficial, to get vaccinated. So, if you have not yet received your shot, please do the right thing and go get vaccinated—if we are to reach the light at the end of the tunnel, everyone needs to do their part."

All New York State mass vaccination sites are now open to eligible New Yorkers for walk-in vaccination on a first come first serve basis. The walk-in appointments are reserved for first doses only with second doses to be scheduled automatically after administration of the initial shot. In addition, all vaccine providers are encouraged to allow walk-in appointments for eligible New Yorkers. People who would prefer to schedule an appointment at a state-run mass vaccination site can do so on the Am I Eligible App or by calling 1-833-NYS-4-VAX. People may also contact their local health department, pharmacy, doctor or hospital to schedule appointments where vaccines are available, or visit vaccines.gov to find information on vaccine appointments near them.

 Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today updated New Yorkers on the state's progress during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our numbers have been trending in the right direction — reaching a record low since the start of this pandemic — and they continue to do so because of what the people of this state have done," Governor Cuomo said. "I encourage those who haven't yet received their vaccination to take advantage of ongoing incentive programs and do so. The vaccine is the best defense we have against COVID and now is the best time to do what needs to be done to protect our communities."
