Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the confirmation of Lisa Sorin, President of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors

"As my administration continues to carry New York forward toward a new era, it is vital that we are surrounded by the best of the best to achieve our transportation and economic development goals," Governor Hochul said. "Today's nominations fill a variety of needs in agencies across the board, and there is no doubt that these nominees are the best choices for these roles. I look forward to the good that will come from this group."

Ms. Sorin is President of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Sorin is the first female president of the Bronx Chamber Commerce. Prior to becoming President, Ms. Sorin was an active Board Member for the Chamber. Before joining the Bronx Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Sorin was the Executive Director of the Westchester Square Business Improvement District for over 6 years. In this role, Ms. Sorin worked to bring a new mix of retail, housing and improved mass transit connections to this section of the Bronx.
Mayor Adams Outlines City of Yes Plan
New York City Mayor Eric Adams laid out a plan to use the city’s zoning tools to support small businesses, create affordable housing, and promote sustainability — part of his vision for New York to become a more inclusive, equitable “City of Yes.” The plan, announced at the Association for a Better New York, includes three major citywide amendments; an effort to invest in and plan around emerging job hubs and commercial corridors in all five boroughs, starting in the Bronx; and initiatives to cut red tape and center equity in planning.

Zoning for Economic Opportunity — will provide local businesses with the flexibility to repurpose their space for a post-pandemic city.

Zoning for Housing Opportunity — will encourage the creation of more housing in neighborhoods across the entire city.

Zoning for Zero Carbon — represents a critical step towards New York City reaching its carbon reduction goals.

The Adams administration will also continue delivering on its commitment to invest in growing business districts and emerging job hubs across all five boroughs with a planning effort around coming Metro-North train stations in the Bronx. DCP will jumpstart the process in collaboration with the local community and the City Council to create new jobs and affordable homes, identify infrastructure investments, enact land-use changes, and strengthen workforce and economic development work to build on this once-in-a-generation opportunity.
The Bronx Chamber of Commerce Celebrates LGBTQIA+ Pride
Joins Hate Has No Business Here Campaign
June is Pride month and celebrates our diverse LGBTQIA+ community. As part of this special celebration, the Bronx Chamber will be partnering with several Bronx LGBTQIA organizations and also launch a Bronx LGBTQIA+ business membership drive with the goal of providing culturally competent certification and business services to LGBT entrepreneurs and small businesses in our borough. Be on the lookout for a special, invitation-only, launch event with Chamber members Ponce Bank and Third Avenue Business Improvement District during the third week of June.

Join us in celebrating our borough diversity and take advantage of the many events occurring in every part of the Bronx, culminating with the official Big Gay Bronx Brunch on Saturday, June 18, 2022, benefitting the Bronx Chamber Foundation's Workforce Development Programs, and the 1 Bronx Pride Festival on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at 149th Street and Third Avenue in the HUB.

Additionally, The Bronx Chamber of Commerce has signed on and is strongly supporting the Hate Has No Business Here Campaign for Bronx businesses. The campaign, re-introduced every year by Third Avenue Business Improvement District, provides cultural competency training for businesses in the areas of homophobia, transphobia, and xenophobia and seeks to create an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming Bronx business community.
The Bronx Chamber of Commerce Celebrates National Immigrant Heritage Month

Immigrants employ nearly half a million New Yorkers and contribute $195 billion to the city’s gross domestic product (GDP) annually.
These businesses are anchors within their communities, particularly in immigrant-dense commercial corridors. They provide culturally relevant goods and services and a space for neighbors to convene.
Immigrant-owned small businesses are crucial to New York City’s economic and cultural vitality, and yet brick and mortar tenants currently face a number of challenges impeding their likelihood of survival.

The Bronx Chamber of Commerce and the NYC Small Business Resource Network provides a host of business services with a language and culturally aware team.
