Dear Neighbor,
As we approach Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who have lost their lives while serving our country. We owe a debt of gratitude to these brave service members, who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our safety and freedom. This weekend, let us come together as a community to honor and remember those who have served and continue to serve our beautiful nation.
In this week’s email, you will find information about this Sunday’s Family Day at Ferry Point Park, the NYC Department of Transportation’s upcoming workshops for “Reimagining the Cross Bronx,” the NYC Department of Environmental Protection’s Water Amnesty program, the MTA Mobile Sales Van, and more. For those interested in learning about upcoming events, please scroll to ‘What’s Happening in District 13’ and ‘Save The Date.’
To contact our office for additional information or concerns, please call us at (718) 931-1721 or email us at District13@council.nyc.gov.
Wishing you all a safe and joyous weekend.
Sincerely,
Council Member Marjorie Velázquez
This Sunday! Family Day at Ferry Point ParkMaking memories is the best part of our Family Summer Series, and on Sunday, May 28, families will come together for an afternoon of life, fun, and laughter at this year’s Family Day at Ferry Point Park! This year’s activities include games, bounce houses, an obstacle course, and more. The first 50 people will also receive tickets to the New York Botanical Gardens’ Bronx Day. We are also happy to announce that Assurance Wireless will be on-site, providing free smartphones and cellular service to qualifying individuals as a part of the Federal Lifeline Assistance program. If you would like to apply for the Federal Lifeline Assistance program, please bring proof of income, recent program participation, and household participation in public assistance programs (i.e. Medicaid, SNAP, SSI). Please note that accounts are limited to one per household. Location: 503 Balcom Avenue (enter at the corner of Dewey Avenue) Mark Your Calendars! Movies Under The StarsReturnsOn Friday, June 23 at the Pelham Bay Park North Picnic Area, we will have a special presentation of Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Enjoy a night out with the family for a movie under the stars (don’t forget to bring a blanket or a chair!). We recommend arriving at 7:30 PM, giving you plenty of time to prepare for the film to begin at dusk. As a reminder, all movie nights are free and open to the public.
