RIKERS ISLAND INMATES INDICTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER SLASHING AND STABBING INMATE IN ATTACK

Defendants Said They Were Folk Nation Members, Only Want to Live with Their Gang

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced that four Rikers Island inmates have been indicted for Attempted Murder in the second degree and additional charges for allegedly slashing an inmate across the face and repeatedly stabbing him.

District Attorney Clark said, “One of the defendants allegedly approached the victim and pulled a weapon from his waistband before slashing him across the face. Other inmates allegedly joined in, leaving the victim with serious injuries. If Correction Officers had not intervened, the gang assault could have been fatal.”

District Attorney Clark said the defendants, Ahmel Addison, 21, Corey Henry, 21, Joseph Martinez, 20, and Camare Wesley 20, were indicted on second-degree Attempted Murder, Attempted Gang Assault in the first degree, two counts of second-degree Assault, first-degree Promoting Prison Contraband, and fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Addison was arraigned before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Kim Parker and bail was set at $150,000 cash/$150,000 bond/$350,000 partially secured bond at 10%. The other defendants will be arraigned at a later date.

According to the investigation on October 27, 2023, at the Enhanced Supervision Housing within Rose M. Singer Center, on Rikers Island, the defendants approached inmate Ruben Morales. Addison was allegedly seen on surveillance video removing an object from his waistband and then slashing Morales across the face. The other defendants, each with visible objects in their hands, allegedly slashed and stabbed the victim until NYC Department of Correction Officers intervened and placed the victim behind a locked vestibule door. Morales was treated for multiple stab wounds. The defendants, allegedly members of Folk Nation, gave statements admitting to the attack and stated they wanted a housing transfer. They also made claims that Folk Nation members should only live with Folk Nation members and alleged the victim was a member of a different gang.

District Attorney Clark also thanked Department of Corrections Central Intelligence Bureau Investigators Korab Hasangjekaj, James Ruiz, Jeffrey Rios, and Walter Holmes for their diligent work in the investigation.

An indictment is an accusatory instrument and not proof of a defendant’s guilt.
