“This vote represents another step
forward not only for the FreshDirect project, but the continued
expansion of positive economic development in the Bronx. Not only will
this project move 2,000 existing jobs to Mott Haven, it will create
1,000 new employment opportunities in our borough, and those are jobs we
cannot afford to lose.
“Since
FreshDirect announced its move to the Bronx they have expanded their
service to the entire borough, developed a pilot program to accept EBT
benefits and hired dozens of Bronxites to work at their existing
facility in Queens, all while working to convert their delivery fleet to
environmentally-friendly vehicles. Today’s vote allows us to continue
moving forward on this important economic development project and to
bring more jobs to our borough,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz
Jr.
