Statement from State Senator Gustavo Rivera on The Rent Guidelines Board's Decision to Significantly Increase Rent on Rent Stabilized Apartments

GOVERNMENT HEADER
"Last night, the Rent Guidelines Board voted to increase rents by 3.25 percent on one-year leases and 5 percent on two-year leases for rent-stabilized tenants for leases beginning on or after October 1, 2022. This is an assault on a dwindling affordable housing stock while market-rate rents are at a record high. We cannot continue a disconnected approach to housing where tenants pay more than half of their income towards rent while landlords expect guaranteed profit, neglect their responsibilities, and aggressively evict low-income New Yorkers."
