MAYOR ADAMS ANNOUNCES CITY HALL, GRACIE MANSION TO BE LIT ORANGE TO COMMEMORATE SIX MONTHS SINCE RACIST MASS SHOOTING IN BUFFALO

New York City Mayor Eric Adams today announced that City Hall and Gracie Mansion will be lit orange tonight to commemorate six months since the racist mass shooting at Tops Friendly Markets in which thirteen people were shot, ten fatally.

“As we remember the 10 Black people who were targeted, shot, and killed in Buffalo six months ago, we hold their families and loved ones in our hearts, and we recommit to damming every river that feeds the sea of gun violence,” said Mayor Adams. “Our administration will leave no stone unturned in getting illegal guns off of our streets and protecting New Yorkers from the scourge of gun violence, and we need our partners in Albany and in Washington, DC to continue to work with us to put a stop to these shootings.”

Buffalo, New York Mayor Byron Brown launched the initiative to light municipal buildings orange in the victims’ honors.

Addressing gun violence has been one of the Adams administration’s top priorities. Since January 1, the administration has removed more than 6,000 illegal guns from the streets, and shootings are down by 14.7 percent year-to-date over last year.
