New Search Tool Allows Users To Take A Deeper Dive On State Contracts

As part of Sunshine Week, a time when we shine a light on open government, Comptroller DiNapoli announced Contracts by the Numbers, a new web page with a dashboard that expands the procurement search tools provided in Open Book New York.

“Transparency is the hallmark of good government, and my office strives to provide the public with in-depth data to keep track of where their tax dollars are being spent,” DiNapoli said. 

 

From audits and policy reports, to dashboards tracking federal pandemic relief aid, NYC agencies and asylum seeker spending, State contracts, and more, the Comptroller's Office is keeping New Yorkers in the know. 

Over the past week, Comptroller DiNapoli joined in the celebrations leading up to St. Patrick's Day, honored Women's History Month, and met with representatives of New York's uniformed officers.

Huntington St. Patrick's Day Parade

On March 10, Comptroller DiNapoli marched in the 90th Annual Huntington St. Patrick’s Day Parade, one of Long Island’s most venerable celebrations. He joined Parade Grand Marshal Monsignor Steven Camp.

OSC's WOW Women's History Walking Tour

On March 12, the Office of the State Comptroller held a walking tour of women in leadership at the agency from 1960 to the present in honor of Women’s History Month.

On March 15, Comptroller DiNapoli attended the annual St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon at the Buffalo Irish Center with Attorney General Letitia James and Kate Horan Schroeder.

Former Erie County Deputy Clerk Arrested for Stealing More Than $200,000 From County

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn, and Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announced the arrest of former Deputy Erie County Clerk Alexander McDougall for allegedly stealing over $200,000 in county funds.

Local Sales Tax Collections Up 1.6% in February Compared to Last Year

Local sales tax collections in New York State increased by 1.6% in February compared to the same month in 2023, according to data released by State Comptroller DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.67 billion, up $26.8 million from the same time last year.

Former West Carthage Housing Authority Executive Director and Mother Arrested

State Comptroller DiNapoli, Jefferson County District Attorney Kristyna S. Mills, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development, Office of the Inspector General, and the New York State Police announced the arrests of former Executive Director of the West Carthage Housing Authority (WCHA) Jan Hoffman for allegedly stealing over $48,000 in WCHA funds, and Katherine Pais, Hoffman’s mother and former WCHA consultant, for allegedly aiding in and concealing the scheme.

LIRR Must Better Prepare for Severe Weather to Prevent Service Disruptions and Costly Damages

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) needs to do more to properly prepare for severe weather events, according to an audit released by State Comptroller DiNapoli. The audit found the LIRR delayed a critical weather-related systemwide risk assessment of its infrastructure for over a decade and failed to complete several resiliency projects on-time following Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

Two Capital Region Residents Indicted for $1 Million Medicaid Transportation Fraud Scheme

The two principles of Phinaliz Communications LLC, Philip Mtui and Mbaga Kaiza, were indicted for their alleged role in a scheme to steal more than $1 million from Medicaid by filing false and inflated reimbursements for transportation services, State Comptroller DiNapoli announced on behalf of the joint State, local and federal investigating agencies.
