Teen Girl and 21-Year-Old Man Died; Another Girl Critically Injured
Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark today announced that a Queens man has been sentenced to 3 1/3 to 10 years in prison for Manslaughter and Assault for speeding and recklessly driving his car, which crashed into a fuel truck, killing two passengers and critically injuring a third.
District Attorney Clark said, “A 15-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man were killed and a 17-year-old girl’s life is now a battle with pain and suffering, because of the defendant’s reckless stunt driving in a car meet-up in Hunts Point. The street was crowded with vehicles and bystanders. His car slammed into a fuel oil truck, and it is fortunate that more lives were not ruined. I hope this sentence brings some consolation to the victim and to the families of the dead.”
District Attorney Clark said Enrique Lopez, 25, of Beach 28 Street, Queens, was sentenced today by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Steven Hornstein to 3 1/3 to 10 years in prison for each of two counts of second-degree Manslaughter, and 3 ½ years in prison and three years post-release supervision for second-degree Assault. The sentences are to run concurrently. Lopez pleaded guilty to the charges on April 28, 2026.
According to the investigation, on January 21, 2024, at approximately 3:17 a.m., near Viele Avenue and Bryant Avenue in Hunts Point, Lopez was driving a 2013 Chrysler 300 with three passengers inside, spinning in circles near bystanders on the street and performing rapid accelerations and turns. He accelerated his car to 70 mph (the legal speed limit was 25 miles per hour) before slamming sideways into a truck filled with fuel oil.
Sabrina Villagomez, 15, who was seated in the backseat of the car, was killed, along with Giovante Roberson, 21, who was seated in the front passenger seat. A 17-year-old girl who was seated in the rear of the vehicle suffered numerous broken bones and other traumatic injuries.
District Attorney Clark thanked NYPD Detective Douglas Gerber for his work in the investigation.
