8th Annual Open Garden NYC

Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15

Each summer since 2018, GreenThumb has partnered with community gardens across the city for Open Garden NYC, when gardens open their gates to the public during the same weekend and offer free activities, tours, performances, educational workshops, volunteer projects, and much more.

We are still seeking community gardens across the city to participate in this year's Open Garden NYC. Highlight of the Month:

A Juneteenth Jubilee

Saturday, June 14, 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Phoenix Community Garden
32 Somers St., Brooklyn, NY 11233

Cook with us in the garden in honor of Juneteenth! During this workshop, we'll get into the legacy of Juneteenth and self-liberation efforts throughout the African diaspora and learn about crops (e.g., hibiscus, field peas, and more) that have sustained Black peoples throughout the Southern U.S. and Caribbean. As we prepare and share a meal, we'll reflect on the legacies and continued strides Black folks have made through self-determination and preservation of foodways. This session continues The Soul of Food, a hands-on Deep Routes workshop series honoring the foodways that connect plants, peoples, and lands across Afro-Indigenous diasporas.

Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson - Community Resources & Updates

Dear Neighbor,

As the temperature begins to increase, it reminds us that we are a few days away from the start of summer. That means we will be spending more time outdoors at our city`s parks and beaches with loved ones. Temperatures are also expected to rise significantly in the next few days. Not only can extreme heat be uncomfortable, but it can also be dangerous, especially for our most vulnerable residents. Understand your risk and make a plan. If you do not have air conditioning in your home, you might be eligible to apply for HEAP (the Home Energy Assistance Program). Click here for more information on how you can keep yourself and your loved ones safe this summer.

Cleanliness Issues in Your Neighborhood:

We want to hear from you! Which areas need enhanced clean-up services? Fill out this form to let us know!

Youth Services:

As the weather gets warmer, we want to ensure our youth have access to fun, enriching, and safe activities throughout the summer. Starting next week, a dedicated Youth Resource Page will be available on our website, featuring programs, events, and opportunities across the borough. We encourage families to explore these resources and help our young people make the most of their summer break.
