Mayor Mamdani Launches Real-Time Cooling Center Guidance Across More Than 2,200 LinkNYC Kiosks

City activates hundreds of cooling centers as heat indices approach 100 degrees through Friday

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani today announced a partnership between New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM), the Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) and LinkNYC to help New Yorkers quickly find nearby NYC Cooling Centers during periods of extreme heat.

The most effective way to stay safe during extreme heat is to seek air-conditioning — whether at home, in a friend’s apartment, at a local business or at one of the hundreds of public cooling centers activated across the city.

During heat emergencies, more than 2,200 LinkNYC kiosks will display real-time walking directions to the nearest NYC Cooling Center within a 10-minute walk. Kiosks will automatically update using data from the City’s Cool Options Finder as cooling centers open and close throughout extreme heat events.

The initiative builds on the success of last winter’s warming center campaign — the largest public service initiative in LinkNYC’s 10-year history — by adding automated data integration and real-time updates to provide faster, more accurate guidance when New Yorkers need it most.

“In an emergency, information can save lives,” said Mayor Mamdani. “Extreme heat becomes deadly fast, and New Yorkers — especially seniors, working people and families without reliable air conditioning — are vulnerable when temperatures soar. By turning thousands of LinkNYC kiosks into real-time guides to cooling centers, we’re using public technology to connect people with the resources they need to stay safe. This is what City government should do: meet New Yorkers where they are and make it easier to access the services that protect them.”

“This initiative shows what’s possible when public and private partners use technology to solve real-world challenges,” said Nick Colvin, CEO of LinkNYC. “By partnering directly with City agencies, LinkNYC is helping to deliver timely, location-specific information to New Yorkers exactly when and where they need it.”

“High heat can be dangerous; it is the deadliest emergency we face in New York City. It is vital that every New Yorker know about the cooling centers available to them throughout the five boroughs during extreme heat events,” said NYCEM Commissioner Christina Farrell. “Our partnership with LinkNYC enables us to reach even more New Yorkers and keep them informed before, during and after heat emergencies.”

“As temperatures rise to dangerous levels, OTI is glad to be able to put technology to use, meet New Yorkers where they are and help residents and visitors stay safe,” said OTI Commissioner and Chief Technology Officer Lisa Gelobter.

Mayor Mamdani and Comptroller Levine Deposit $20 Million in Ponce Bank, Expanding Access to Capital for Working Class New Yorkers

New York City Banking Commission also designates Inwood branch as part of New York Banking Development District Program

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and Comptroller Mark Levine announced a $20 million deposit in Ponce Bank to strengthen community banking and expand economic opportunity in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx.

The City will deposit $10 million each into Ponce Bank branches in Inwood and the Bronx, increasing the bank’s lending capacity and helping more New Yorkers buy homes, start small businesses and build long-term financial stability

The Mayor and Comptroller also announced that Ponce Bank’s Inwood branch has been designated as part of the New York Banking Development District (BDD) Program, joining the bank’s Bronx branch. The designation allows the branch to receive public deposits that support lending and expand access to financial services for local residents and businesses. The process to include the Inwood branch in the BDD program was initiated by then-Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine.

Our administration is putting public resources to work for working people. For too long, too many neighborhoods have been denied the investment they deserve,” said Mayor Mamdani. “By depositing $20 million in a trusted community bank, we're expanding access to capital for small businesses, creating pathways to homeownership and building wealth in the communities that make New York the greatest city on earth. Government should invest directly in people and neighborhoods. That’s exactly what we’re doing.

“Limited access to reliable capital has been a major barrier for Upper Manhattan and the South Bronx residents for decades, something I and many have seen firsthand and worked hard to change,” said City Comptroller Levine. “This partnership with Mayor Mamdani will clear even more barriers to economic empowerment through vital funding levers. Through the Banking Development District program, New York City is directing public deposits into mission-driven lenders, and with it the communities they serve, to expand their ability to provide access to credit and banking services.”

“The Banking Development District Program demonstrates how government can use its financial resources strategically to support equitable economic growth,” said Department of Finance Commissioner Richard Lee. “By directing deposits to community-focused institutions, we are helping ensure that more New Yorkers have access to the financial tools they need to build wealth, start businesses and invest in their futures.”

For more than 60 years, Ponce Bank has been committed to helping underserved communities access the financial resources they need to thrive, said Carlos Naudon, President & CEO of Ponce Bank. This investment from New York City reflects our shared belief that neighborhoods like Inwood and the Bronx deserve strong, locally rooted financial institutions that invest in small businesses, homeowners and working families. These deposits will help us continue the mission-driven work we have carried out for generations and expand opportunity in the communities we proudly call home.

The deposits were made through the New York City Banking Commission, which is chaired by the Mayor, Comptroller and Commissioner of Finance. The Commission administers the City’s participation in the state Banking Development District Program, which is designed to strengthen lending capacity and expand access to financial services in communities that continue to face barriers to credit

Inwood and the East Bronx are home to vibrant commercial corridors, working class families, and immigrant communities that benefit from strong, locally rooted financial institutions committed to serving neighborhood needs.

Justice Department, FBI Disable 13 Websites Backed by Suspected Chinese Agents That Sought Sensitive U.S. Information from Security Clearance Holders

Thirteen internet domains used to target U.S. persons, including current and former security clearance holders with access to classified and sensitive U.S. government information, were seized by federal authorities.

“These domain seizures offer a glimpse at how foreign actors can use promises of easy money to lure Americans into revealing sensitive or classified information that they are duty‑bound to protect,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg. “Anyone approached online with offers of easy income for vague ‘consulting’ work should treat those overtures with extreme caution and remain vigilant for warning signs of malicious targeting.”

“These seizures send a clear message that any attempts to exploit Americans trusted with access to our nation’s most sensitive information will be exposed and dismantled,” said U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro for the District of Columbia. “These sham consulting sites were crafted to deceive, but thanks to the persistent work of our prosecutors and law enforcement partners, this scheme, like so many others, has been stopped in its tracks. We will always protect the integrity of our workforce and safeguard the trusted information that underpins our national security.”

“The fake consulting company domains seized by the FBI illustrate the lengths the Chinese government’s intelligence services will go to as they try to use AI-generated content to trick, recruit, or coerce current and former U.S. security clearance holders into sharing sensitive information,” said Assistant Director Roman Rozhavsky of the FBI’s Counterintelligence and Espionage Division. “The FBI and our partners have observed China’s intelligence services resort to using AI, professional networking sites, and online payment platforms to target Americans, and we have taken actions to defend the homeland and our national security. The FBI is grateful for all of the assistance provided by our private sector and domestic and international partners.”

“For too long, the Chinese government has tried to exploit U.S. government employees behind the cover of fake companies and phony job postings,” said Special Agent in Charge Daniel Wierzbicki of the FBI’s Washington Field Office Counterintelligence and Cyber Division. “Today, we shut them down. These seizures will prevent these fraudulent sites from being used to target Americans with access to sensitive information. The FBI will continue to use every tool available to protect Americans and our national security from this threat.”

“The Chinese government continues to pursue U.S. innovation, research, and sensitive information through a variety of deceptive techniques, including fraudulent job postings and online recruitment efforts,” said Special Agent in Charge Dominique Evans of the FBI’s Norfolk Field Office. “By seizing these domains and exposing these tactics, we are working to protect national security, safeguard American ingenuity, and help the public recognize and defend against these threats. We urge anyone approached with suspicious job opportunities or recruitment efforts to remain vigilant, recognize the warning signs, and report suspicious activity to the FBI.”

According to the affidavit filed in support of the seizure warrants, beginning in November 2023, the conspirators created at least 13 fake consulting company websites. The websites and their associated job postings advertised generic “consulting” jobs and included statements indicating their purpose was to recruit current or former U.S. government and U.S. military employees to provide expertise to unspecified clients.

The websites were typically linked or referenced within the entities’ job postings on hiring platforms. The methods and means used by the conspirators include (1) the use of aliases, fictitious personas, and the stolen identities of actual persons; (2) the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated photographs; (3) relatively large payments for research reports; (4) the use of Telegram and other encrypted applications; (5) pressure to provide “exclusive” or “insider” information; and (6) the transfer of money from places and accounts located overseas to places and accounts located in the United States.

According to court documents, the conspirators recruited applicants through job postings, on social media and other platforms including Upwork, Expertia AI, Hubstaff Talent, Wellfound, and Post Job Free. The postings related to topics of interest to the government of the People’s Republic of China.

The conspirators targeted current and former security clearance holders and other Americans who have access to classified and sensitive U.S. government information. The fake positions included “Senior Analyst” and “International Affairs Consultant” jobs. The recruiters pressured candidates to share confidential information and reports from “insider” sources in violation of their official duties. The scheme used contracts and confidentiality agreements to give their bogus consulting companies an air of legitimacy.

The conspirators have denied any involvement by any foreign government.

The affidavit alleges that the conspirators offered money to applicants and recruits in exchange for sensitive information, paid for reports using online payment accounts in the names of fictitious individuals, and used cryptocurrency to conceal the conspirators’ identities and the true source of the payments. These payments allowed for the flow of money from places outside the United States to places inside the United States in furtherance of the conspiracy.

According to the affidavit, the conspirators used the following domains in their conspiracy to commit bribery of current and former public officials, identity theft, and international money laundering: Centrik Global Consulting, centrikglobalconsulting.com (CENTRIK); Rightinfo Consulting, rightinfoconsult.com (RIGHTINFO); Finnacle-Vesper Consulting (FV), finnaclevesperconsulting.com; CYDF Consulting, cydfconsulting.com (CYDF); Pulse Wave Global, pulsewaveglobal.com (PWG); Catalyst Global Solutions, catalystglobalsolutions.com (CGS); Horizzen, thehorizzen.com (HORIZZEN); GeoIndopacific, geoindopacific.com (GEOINDOPACIFIC); Global Peace Foundation – Indonesia, gpf-ina.org (GPFI); SafeSec Group, safesec-group.com (SAFESEC); The TruthInfo, thetruthinfo.com (TRUTHINFO); Vandercons.com; and Gulf Peace Foundation, gulfpeace.org (GULF PEACE).

The domains seized today include centrikglobalconsulting.com; rightinfoconsult.com; finnaclevesperconsulting.com; cydfconsulting.com; pulsewaveglobal.com; catalystglobalsolutions.com; thehorizzen.com; geoindopacific.com; gpf-ina.org; safesec-group.com; thetruthinfo.com; Vandercons.com; and gulfpeace.org.

Following the seizures, the FBI placed takeover pages on the seized websites to warn site visitors that the sites were rendered inoperable in order to disrupt the intended illegal activity and money laundering tied to the domains.

This seizure was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jolie F. Zimmerman for the District of Columbia, along with the FBI’s Washington Field Office and Norfolk Field Office, with substantial assistance from Trial Attorney Maria Fedor of the Department of Justice’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section of the National Security Division and Paralegal Kate Abrey of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

ICE Arrests Man Who Threatened to Shoot HSI Agents

ICE law enforcement have been facing an 8,000% increase in death threats

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released the following statement after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrested a man in Washington state who threatened to shoot ICE law enforcement officers.

On May 19, 2026, HSI Yakima attempted to arrest an illegal alien who fled law enforcement in his vehicle. Agents located the alien’s truck at the residence of Manuel Lozano, a United States citizen. Agents observed that he had a pistol on his waistband.

He then said “I’ve got something for you,” disappeared toward the back of the house, then returned with an AR-15-style rifle. As the agents were walking away from the house, Lozano said “I have 60 rounds and have enough to smoke all you…You see an AR and walk away.”

HSI Yakima arrested Lozano on June 4. A search of his residence resulted in the seizure of two firearms, firearms parts, and mixed ammunition. He has been charged with threats against a federal law enforcement officer.

“This man threatened to shoot an HSI agent with an AR-15 rifle,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “He has now been charged with threatening a federal law enforcement officer. Secretary Mullin has been clear: anyone who threatens to kill an ICE law enforcement officer will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The men and women in ICE law enforcement are simply doing their jobs and enforcing the laws passed by Congress. This violence against ICE law enforcement must end.”

ICE law enforcement officers are currently facing a 1,300% increase in assaults against them, as well as a 3,300% increase in vehicle assaults and an 8,000% increase in death threats.
