Dear Neighbor,
This week, dozens of community members joined us at City Hall to testify about the proliferation of unlicensed smoke shops. During the hearing, we heard various testimonies, including those of local advocates and students with concerns about unregulated cannabis and tobacco products and retailers. By allowing unlicensed businesses to operate without the proper enforcement, we are doing a disservice to our communities and law-abiding businesses. Additional information from this week’s hearing can be found in the ‘Legislative Corner.’
In response to an increased demand for housing advocacy and support, my office has partnered with NIDC to provide free housing support services every Tuesday from 10 AM to 4 PM. As we continue to face an increased need for housing in our community, I am committed to ensuring our families have access to critical resources and advocates to support them. To make an appointment, please contact my office.
In this week’s email, you will find critical information regarding women’s health, scholarship opportunities, tax preparation support, and legislative updates from this week’s Stated Meeting. The New York City Council also launched its FY 2024 Discretionary Funding Expense Application; to learn more, please scroll to the ‘Budget Corner’ section below. If you need assistance registering, a member of my staff will be happy to help you.
In the meantime, if you have any questions or would like to request an appointment with one of our Constituent Services Liaisons, please call us at (718) 931-1721 or email us at District13@council.nyc.gov.
Sincerely,
Council Member Marjorie Velázquez
