Hi New Yorkers – We need your voice. Sign our petition. Urge the Mayor to stop the elimination of your community compost programs!
What’s new: Mayor Adams announced budget cuts that will end community composting programs across the city, including GrowNYC’s and we need your support! Please SIGN HERE asking Mayor Adams to restore this funding and urge your New York City Council to advocate for this important programming.
Why it matters: Community composting organizations, including GrowNYC, Big Reuse, LES Ecology Center, Earth Matter NY, New York Botanical Garden, Queens Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden collectively:
Divert more than 8.3 million pounds of organic waste from landfills each year.
Produce and distribute hundreds of thousands of pounds of compost to over 325 community groups, parks, 85 street tree care events, and thousands of individuals each year.
Provide compost outreach and education to over 600,000 New Yorkers annually
Operate 6 community composting sites - providing the most sustainable and equitable form of organics waste management.
The bottom line: There cannot be a successful Curbside Composting program in New York City without a strong outreach and community composting network to educate New Yorkers.
Please sign our petition. When you do, an email with our letter will be sent to the Mayor demanding him to halt the elimination of community compost programs!
