Argument at Smoke Shop Escalated into Gunfire

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced that three Bronx men have been indicted for Attempted Murder for firing gunshots on a busy shopping street in the Mt. Hope neighborhood.

District Attorney Clark said, “The defendants turned an argument into a gunfight, firing across Tremont Avenue, endangering lives. These defendants will be held accountable for their reckless behavior.”

District Attorney Clark said the defendants, Biyagi Jawara, 28, his brother, Ebarama Jawara, 24, of Echo Place, and Mohammed Kamar, 27, of Valentine Avenue, were indicted on Attempted Murder in the second-degree, two counts of Attempted Assault in the first-degree, two counts of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, first-degree Reckless Endangerment, two counts of Attempted Assault in the second-degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, fourthdegree Criminal Possession of a Firearm, second-degree Reckless Endangerment and Possession of Ammunition. Biyagi Jawara and Ebarama Jawara were also indicted on two counts each of third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Biyagi Jawara was arraigned today by Bronx Supreme Court Justice George Villegas. Bail was set at $5,000 cash/$15,000 bond. Ebarama Jawara was arraigned on March 20, 2025, and bail was set at $15,000 cash/$50,000 bond. Kamar was arraigned on April 2, 2025. Bail was set at $ 15,000 cash/$45,000 bond.

According to the investigation, on January 8, 2025, at approximately 6:15 p.m., at a smoke shop at 239 East Tremont Avenue in Mt. Hope, Biyagi Jawara and Mohammed Kamar argued with a man. Ebarama Jawara arrived at the shop and the man who began the argument left and joined several men across the street. When the three defendants exited the store, a shot came from the group. Ebarama Jawara allegedly fired back, at least once, and Kamar allegedly took the gun and fired a shot.

District Attorney Clark thanked NYPD Detective Michael Pando from the 46th Precinct Detective Squad for his work in the investigation.

An indictment is an accusatory instrument and not proof of a defendant’s guilt.
