Fridays, August 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 10am to 12pm
Dig for compost critters, water the plants, explore nature, harvest some veggies, and so much more at VCPA’s Learning Garden!
This is a FREE drop-in program.

Take a slow walk in the park and learn about local flora and fauna with naturalist Debbi Dolan. Debbi has a wealth of knowledge about nature, plants, and wildlife that she enjoys sharing.

Caribeando features live music highlighting traditional Caribbean rhythms and dances including bomba, plena, guaracha, and changüí. Led by master percussionist Juan Usera, an Afro-Puerto Rican artist and culture-bearer whose work is deeply rooted in the traditional African-based dance forms of Bomba and Plena. Watch! Learn! Family Nature Journaling Hike
Thursday, August 14 at 10:30am
In this free hands-on workshop, you and your young naturalists (ages 6 to 11) will practice being scientists, explorers, artists, and storytellers with nature journaling! Kids will get their very own journals to decorate before we head off on a guided nature hike.

REIMAGINING: In Transition
Thursday, August 21 from 6pm to 8pm
In Transition is an offering to consider the unique cultural beliefs around honoring ancestors who have passed. It will be facilitated by artist and space doula Tijay Mohammed, along with artists Susan Misra and Marcela Torres from the Weaving Liberation of All Beings collective.
Enslaved Burial Ground
REIMAGINING: In Transition is part of Van Cortlandt Park Alliance’s Reimagining initiative. In partnership with the Design Trust for Public Space and Immanuel Oni, Liminal Sp, VCPA invites the community to reimagine the park’s Enslaved African Burial Ground site as a memorial space that fosters long-term healing and restoration. This project is supported by the Mellon Foundation.
