SEVERAL OF SENATOR RIVERA'S BILLS PASSES THE SENATE FLOOR
In the last few days, three very important bills sponsored by Senator Rivera passed the Senate:
The “Local Input for Community Healthcare (LICH) Act,” which will require public notice before hospital closure or cuts to critical care services (S.9388).
The bill to require insurance coverage for anesthesia for the full duration of a procedure (S.3820-B).
The bill to strengthen penalties for building and fire code violations (3819-A).
This week, Senator Rivera alongside Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal sponsored a legislative briefing organized by the Drug Policy Alliance and On Point NYC.
During the briefing, On Point NYC's Executive Director Sam Rivera, and the New York State Director of the Drug Policy Alliance Toni Smith spoke at length with legislative staff about the two existing Overdose Prevention Centers and their successes.
Thank you to both organizations for organizing this event! |
This week, Senator Rivera alongside Assemblymember Gabriella Romero and Albany City Auditor Sam Fein participated in a Health Care Town Hall at the University at Albany moderated by Associate Professor Ashley Fox to discuss the current landscape of New York’s health care system and potential solutions.
The conversation focused on the impact of the recent federal cuts to the Medicaid program, rising healthcare costs nationally, as well as significant healthcare coverage gaps.
Senator Rivera had the opportunity to give remarks highlighting this reality and the short and long term solutions to this issue, including passing his New York Health Act (S3425). Thank you for the invitation!
