False endorsement by Manhattan African Journal, Claims Bronx African Community supports Upper Manhattan Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez

We asked the CO-PUBLISHER AND EDITOR – IN CHIEF of the African Journal Barnabé Bazona Bado about the African Community endorsement of Ydanis Rodriguez for Congress. How many candidates did you interview we asked?
We were told that Ydanis Rodriguez called the African Journal for an endorsement, and no other of the twelve candidates were interviewed. The African Journal is located at 1 East 104th Street in the congressional district of Adriano Espaillat who is an ally of Ydanis Rodriguez. There are some who say it was Espaollat who put Rodriguez up to steal votes from Councilman Ruben Diaz Sr. We called candidate Ydanis Rodriguez's Communication Director for a comment, and did not get a reply by the time the story was written.

Read the story below where candidate Ydanis Rodriguez who was born in the Dominican Republic is quoted saying he will be the first African in congress.

Ocasio-Cortez Campaign Launches Week of Action

Today, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign is kicking off a Week of Action, mobilizing hundreds of volunteers each day to tell NY-14 residents how they vote safely in the June 23rd primary election.  The week features virtual rallies with the Congresswoman and other speakers to pump-up and inform volunteers. A full calendar for the Week of Action is below.  Volunteers can sign up to participate here.  Reporters can watch the virtual rallies on Facebook Live

“Ocasio-Cortez 2020 has created a grassroots machine, mobilizing over 2,600 unique volunteers during the COVID-19 crisis to make over 250,000 community check-in calls, over 70,000 texts, distribute over 32,800 masks, and deliver over 3000 meals,” said Ocasio 2020 Press Secretary Ivet Contreras. “Now, with the primary just three weeks away, these volunteers will also be sharing with NY-14 voters how they can vote by absentee ballot -- and why it’s so important to get out the vote this year.”

Polls will be open on June 23rd, but due to COVID-19, every New Yorker can also vote by absentee ballot. Voters should receive an application for an absentee ballot in the mail but they can also request one online at https://www.nycabsentee.com/.  All voters must request an absentee ballot by June 16. On the form, check "temporary illness or physical disability" as the reason you are requesting an absentee ballot. Once you’ve received your ballot, complete it, sign it and send it in immediately - the deadline is June 22, but voters are encouraged to send them in as early as possible.

Governor Cuomo Calls for Standardized Police Misconduct Policies Across America

Police Misconduct Investigations Should Be Conducted by Independent, Outside Agencies - Not by Local Prosecutors

Federal Government Should Create One Definition of Excessive Force

Disciplinary Records of Police Officers Accused of Misconduct Should Be Released

Asks Attorney General James to Review All Actions and Procedures Used During Last Night's Protests in Her Ongoing Investigation

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today called for standardized police misconduct policies across America. The Governor said federal and state governments should pass laws requiring police misconduct investigations be conducted by independent, outside agencies - not by local prosecutors. He called on the federal government to define excessive force by a police officer by one standard all across the nation. The Governor also advocated for the release of disciplinary records of officers who are accused of misconduct. He also argued every public school should provide the same level of funding for each child so there are not two education systems - one for the rich and one for the poor.

"The real issue is the continuing racism in this country and it is chronic and it is endemic and it is institutional and it speaks to a collective hypocrisy," Governor Cuomo said. "We're very good in this country at telling other people how they should live their lives and how they should act, but we still discriminate on the basis of color of skin. That is the simple, painful truth - but this is a moment for truth. Our challenge today is to use this moment, use this energy constructively and demand real positive change. And articulate what the change is that we want. George Floyd must not have died in vain. Mr. Floyd's killing must be a moment in which this nation actually learned and grew and progressed to make this place a better place."

The Governor also asked Attorney General Letitia James to include last night's protests and ongoing protests in her review of all actions and procedures used during recent protests.

At the request of local officials, the Governor deployed additional State Police officers to Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany in advance of planned protests in those cities. State Police are at the ready to help any other municipalities in need and the National Guard is on standby.

Governor Cuomo Announces Dentists Can Reopen Statewide Tomorrow and Updates New Yorkers on State's Progress During Ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic

Interim COVID-19 Guidance for Dentistry can be found here

Confirms 1,110 Additional Coronavirus Cases in New York State - Bringing Statewide Total to 370,770; New Cases in 45 Counties

Governor Cuomo: "This reduction in the number of deaths is tremendous progress from where we were. We have gone through hell and back, but we are on the other side and it's a lesson for all of us."

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that New York dentists can reopen statewide tomorrow. Dentists' offices will be subject to state guidance on best practices for safety and social distancing. The Governor also updated New Yorkers on the state's progress during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. New cases, hospitalizations, intubations and deaths are all declining as of yesterday.

Last night was a long and ugly night all across this nation, as we know. Let's talk about where we are today with the COVID virus first. The number of hospitalizations are down again. Net change in hospitalizations down again. Intubations down again. Number of new deaths still dropping. All good news. Number of lives lost down to 56, which is, in this absurd reality we live in, actually very, very good news.

There will be a point at which the number of deaths can't get any lower because people will die of something and COVID virus is very good at affecting those people who have other illnesses, but this reduction in the number of deaths is tremendous progress from where we were. We have gone through hell and back, but we are on the other side and it's a lesson for all of us.

Governor Cuomo Announces Attorney General James Will Review All Actions and Procedures Used During Last Night's Protests in New York City

Public Report Will Be Issued Within 30 Days

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced Attorney General Letitia James will review all actions and procedures used during last night's protests in New York City and Brooklyn in response to the death of George Floyd and issue a public report within 30 days. The Attorney General's independent review should include a review of both police procedures and crowd actions during the protests.

"We have an injustice in the criminal justice system that is abhorrent. George Floyd's death was not just about George Floyd. These are not individual incidents — and you are blind or in denial if you are still treating each one like a unique situation," Governor Cuomo said. "This nation's history of discrimination and racism dates back hundreds of years and it is what is behind this anger and frustration, but violence cannot be the answer because it obscures the righteousness of the message and the mission. Last night we saw disturbing violent clashes amidst protests right here in New York City, and I'm asking Attorney General James to review the actions and the procedures that were used last night because the public deserves answers and they deserve accountability."

New York State Attorney General Letitia James said, "Peaceful protest is a basic civil right. That right should be protected and guarded. We take the designation to investigate last night's actions very seriously. We will act independently to seek answers, ensure that the truth is laid bare, and that there is accountability for any wrongdoing. We will be transparent in our findings as we seek accountability for those who did wrong. We are asking anyone with information about last night, including visual evidence, to please share it with our office so we can take it into account as we proceed with this investigation. Please email Complaints@ag.ny.gov."
