LABOR DAY - A SALUTE TO AMERICAN LABOR

The Bronx Chamber of Commerce acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the American Labor movement and the workers that created so many of the benefits that our workforce enjoys today. One of these achievements is Labor Day. The first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. The Bronx Chamber of Commerce salutes the hard working individuals that have made our nation what it is today. Chamber offices will be closed from Friday, September 2 to Monday, September 5. The offices will reopen on Tuesday, September 6.

PENN STATION ACCESS PLAN UPDATES

Penn Station Access exemplifies MTA’s new approach to project delivery—building better, faster, and cheaper, and moving capital projects efficiently through the project lifecycle. Penn Station Access successfully advanced conceptual engineering and environmental review during COVID, receiving its Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) from the FTA in the Fall of 2021. On December 29, 2021, the MTA awarded a Design-Build (DB) contract to Halmar International, LLC/Railworks J.V., and the design-builder was given a Notice to Proceed in January 2022. With a Design-Build approach, an experienced Project Executive, and a co-located field office, Penn Station Access is promoting innovation and collaboration. NYC Congestion Pricing Plan The Legislative Affairs Committee of The Bronx Chamber of Commerce is seeking member feedback regarding the newly released Congestion Pricing Plan presented in the Preliminary Environmental Assessment Report released by the MTA. Wildlife Conservation Society WCS Wild Audio podcast. In this episode, John Cavelli speaks of the importance of science and how it is at the heart of effective conservation. Permits Filed For 2361 Morris Avenue In Fordham, The Bronx

 

Permits have been filed for a seven-story residential building at 2361 Morris Avenue in Fordham, The Bronx. Located at the intersection of East 184th Street and Morris Avenue, the corner lot is two blocks from the 183rd Street subway station, serviced by the 4 train. Mendy Tessler is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 70-foot-tall development will yield 23,472 square feet designated for residential space. The building will have 45 residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 521 square feet. The steel-based structure will also have a 30-foot-long rear yard but no accessory parking.

George Cambourakis of Structural Engineering Technologies is listed as the applicant of record.

Demolition permits were filed in May 2021 for the two-story home on the site. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

Housing Lottery Launches For 724 Elton Avenue In Melrose, The Bronx

 

The affordable housing lottery has launched for 724 Elton Avenue, a four-story residential building in Melrose, The Bronx. Built in 1931 for industrial use, the structure was altered in 2017 for residential use. Available on NYC Housing Connect are five units for residents at 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $65,143 to $187,330.

Residences come with energy-efficient appliances, air conditioning, smart controls for heating and cooling, and name-brand kitchen appliances, countertops, and finishes. Tenants are responsible for electricity.

At 130 percent of the AMI, there are four studios with a monthly rent of $1,900 for incomes ranging from $65,143 to $138,840 and one two-bedroom with a monthly rent of $2,100 for incomes ranging from $72,000 to $187,330.

Prospective renters must meet income and household size requirements to apply for these apartments. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than September 23, 2022.

Please renew your membership now.  Dues are $250 per person by check or in the office.  You can also buy/renew your membership online with a small processing fee.  Rosh HaShannah starts the evening of Sept. 25.  It's not too soon to buy your tickets for services!  Tickets are $125 per person by check or in the office.  You can also buy your tickets online with a small processing fee.  We expect all men who buy tickets to also be members and encourage all women to do the same.    High Holiday Greetings We are again offering you the opportunity to send High Holiday greetings to your family, friends, and the community.  Pricing is $20 for a small ad (6 line limit) and $30 for a large ad (10 line limit, twice the size, but larger font). A postal mailing has gone out.  If you did not receive it, you are welcome to contact the office directly to place the ad.  Ads are not being sold on the website, only through the mailing or directly in the office.  The deadline is Sept. 6.    Book of Remembrance The Book of Remembrance will be issued again this year.  Pricing is shown on the website, although we ask that you purchase through the office.    Labor Day, Monday Sept. 5 The office will be closed.    Annual Membership Meeting The VCJC will have its annual membership meeting on Sunday Sept. 18 at 9:30AM.  The meeting will be a hybrid meeting, that is it will be held both in person and via Zoom.  Only members who paid their dues for the 2021-2022 year are eligible to attend and participate.  Detailed announcements are going out by postal mail.
