Comptroller DiNapoli Announces Latest Fiscal Stress Scores for Local Governments
A total of 22 local governments in New York state were designated in fiscal stress for their local fiscal years ending (FYE) in 2025, down from 23 a year ago. However, the number of municipalities in the most severe category, significant fiscal stress, increased from four to six, according to a report released by Comptroller DiNapoli.

Over $16,000 in Unclaimed Funds Returned to Town of Wallkill EMS
Comptroller DiNapoli and Orange County State Senator James Skoufis joined local officials to highlight the return of $16,035.32 to the Town of Wallkill Emergency Medical Services and raise awareness of the nearly $107 million in unclaimed funds waiting to be claimed by Orange County residents, businesses, and nonprofits. Comptroller DiNapoli's Office of Unclaimed Funds returns over $2 million each day. Unclaimed funds never expire and are free to claim through the Comptroller's website.

Workplace Injuries and Illnesses Decline in New York
New York’s private sector workplaces have become safer over the past decade. According to a report by Comptroller DiNapoli, workplace injuries and illnesses among private sector businesses declined nearly 18% between 2014 and 2024. Comptroller DiNapoli noted strengthening safety practices can reduce business disruptions and, most importantly, save workers' lives.

Comptroller DiNapoli Releases Analysis of State Grant Funding to New York City
About 17% of the city’s total revenue for Fiscal Year (FY) 2027, totaling over $21 billion, comes from state aid, including substantial categorical grant funding for essential programs for children, families and vulnerable residents, according to a new report from Comptroller DiNapoli. Major education and social service programs in New York City could be in jeopardy if the federal government cuts funding to the state.

Comptroller DiNapoli and NYC Comptroller Levine Statement on SEC Plan to Silence Shareholders
New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and New York City Comptroller Mark Levine issued a joint statement opposing the Securities and Exchange Commission's proposal to rescind Rule 14a-8 and encouraging companies to support shareholders' ability to file proposals. Since 1942, the rule has required publicly traded companies to include qualifying shareholder proposals in their proxy materials so that all investors can vote on them. Without it, companies could exclude shareholder proposals from the proxy ballot altogether, leaving investors to bear the cost of a separate proxy solicitation just to put a question before their fellow shareholders.

Owner of Ulster County Medical Transportation Company Sentenced to Prison for Stealing $1.1 Million in Medicaid Fraud Scheme
The owner of an Ulster County medical transportation service company was sentenced to serve three to nine years in state prison and ordered to pay full restitution for stealing over $1.1 million by unlawfully billing the Medicaid program by inflating charges and billing for services that were never provided, Comptroller DiNapoli and Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji announced.
