Mondays 4:30-6:30pm
CARTOONING (Tweens & Teens) Instructor: Gregory Maldonado
From American superhero comics, to Japanese manga, and everything in-between, you will learn the tools to tell a story in the sequential art form. Learn the basics of shape and gesture drawing to create your own characters to serve as the stars of your story, before moving on to panels and composition, and finally crafting a short story that will start you on the road to creating your own graphic novel like the pros.
Tuesdays 4:30-6:30pm
BASICS OF DRAWING (Youth & Families) Instructor: Tiffany Miller
Drawing is one of the oldest forms of communication and storytelling. It is also the foundation for many masterful works of art. Discover the beauty, magic, and power of this artistic discipline in a relaxed, supportive environment. With a focus on composition, we will practice our craft by sketching landscapes, still life, abstract, and figurative drawings of master artists, contemporary artists, illustrators, and photographers.
Wednesdays 4:30-6:30pm
DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION (Tweens & Teens) Instructor: Maria Ferrari
Arm yourself with the best tools possible for creating art digitally! This class teaches basic skills and good work habits that are essential to mastering Photoshop, and its complex range of possibilities. Learn skills that will better prepare students for a lifetime of creating digital art with ease, and help you build portfolios for school applications and expanding job opportunities in the digital design fields.
Can be attended in-person and virtually.
Thursdays 4:30-6:30pm
INTRODUCTION TO ART (Youth & Families) Instructor: Jennifer Tomaiolo
In this class for both young children learning about art for the first time, and experienced artists looking to experiment with new materials, we will look at art & artists from all over the world. This course is designed to inspire your creativity and build your skills each week by teaching students how to use a variety of art materials and methods to create unique works of art, including drawing, painting, collage, clay, 3D multimedia and sculpture.
Fridays 4:30-6:30pm
Textile Arts & Crochet (Teens & Adults) Instructor: Ruth Marshall
Let’s upcycle and recycle old material into crafty, good-looking items with an eye towards longevity and usefulness. Sweaters can be repurposed into cushions or beanies. T-shirts can be transformed into bags, headbands, or yarn that can be crocheted into bath mats. Let’s make plastic bottle purses, flowers and even string. This class will be more successful if you can supply your own materials (i.e, second-hand sweaters, t-shirts and plastic bottles)!
Saturdays 11am-1pm
Printmaking & Drawing (All Ages) Instructor: Tammy Wofsey
In this class we will learn drawing and printmaking skills. Printmaking allows students to duplicate artwork they've created by drawing, carving, or placing down material such as leaves, cloth or paper onto an inked plate, then putting the paper they want to print the art on atop, followed by a felt blanket. Using our wheel press, you will hand crank through your artwork. Each layer is peeled off to get to the bottom of your print.
Saturdays 2pm-4pm
Digital Animation (Tweens & Teens) Instructor: Hector Canonge
Through the use of digital software, lecture, demonstration, and hands on learning students will learn animation. By the end of the course, students will have created their own 30 second-long animated short.
Can be attended in-person and virtually.
Mixed-Media Painting (Teens & Adults) Instructor: Marta Blair
This class will teach students to explore the multiple sources of abstraction inherent in natural forms. Sharpening the way we approach and look at nature and reviewing the basic properties of line, shape, space, form, texture, pattern, and color; we will open up a space for personal expression while giving painting and mixed media techniques to work around these concepts along with the brief introduction of artists and artwork to reinforce the same.
Most classes will be held on-site at the Bronx River Art Center, with sessions taking place within our well-ventilated open space studios.

All persons age 12 or over must show proof of vaccination.
Proof of vaccination will be required upon entering building for first class.

Masking, social distancing, hand washing, temperature check and exposure questionnaire will be strictly enforced for every class session.
