It was the calm before the storm in Morris Park by Loreto Park as former Republican Mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa announced his endorsement of Republican candidate George Havranek and Democratic candidate Irene Estrada for the 13th City Council seat. The only thing missing were the advertised network cameras of PIX 11, NBCNews, ABC7, CBS, and News 12 which may have been why Curtis Sliwa called the two candidates over for a private conference.
Sliwa said he played stickball in Loreto Park with Republican Rudy Giuliani and Democrat Herman Badillo. One became Mayor and the other was the City Comptroller. They did not run for the same office. Republican George Havranek is running for the first time against four other Republicans, Grace Marrero, Kristy Marmorato, Phyliss Nastasio, and Samantha Zherka. Irene Estrada is running against two other Democrats, Bernadette Ferrara, and Incumbent Marjorie Velazquez. Two years ago Estrada garnered 600 votes to Velazquez's 5,608 in the Democratic Primary.
Former Republican Mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa explains that he, Republican Rudy Giuliani, and Democrat Herman Badillo played stickball in the park behind him.
