News, updates and more from NYC Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr.

CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr., celebrates Black History Month, an annual celebration of the achievements of Black Americans. While the month of February is used to recognize the pillars of our community, we must not forget that each and every day Black Americans are making a difference in our city, state, and country.

"Right here in the Bronx, our borough’s history would not be what it is without the significant contributions of African Americans". Council Member Salamanca said.

On Thursday, Council Member Salamanca highlighted five New Yorkers who are making a difference in our communities: Ms. Etta Ritter, Mr. Joseph Alston, Mr. Ambroise Ngande, Ms. Natalie Cash, and Ms. Jasmine Crowell.

Thank you to the Bronx Zoo, for hosting the afternoon’s wonderful celebration, and to his colleagues who joined in on the festivities, Assembly Members, Chantel Jackson, and George Alvarez, and all those Bronxites who attended and made the event such a memorable occasion.

IMPLEMENTING COMMERCIAL WASTE ZONES

As NYC moves closer to implementing commercial waste zones it is imperative that we work closely with the New York City Department of Sanitation and the business community to ensure a fair and competitive market for all New Yorkers.

THE NEED TO CREATE MORE HOUSING

New York City needs to create more housing where it can. Converting underutilized office space to residential units, including essential affordable housing, is an option our government partners must consider.
