Issues Proclamation Designating March as Women’s History Month to Honor Trailblazers Who Have Shaped the State's History
State Landmarks to be Lit Purple in Recognition of Women's History Month
Governor Kathy Hochul today issued a proclamation designating March as Women's History Month to celebrate the achievements of New York women. In recognition, New York State landmarks will be lit purple tonight, March 1.
“From Waterloo to Seneca Falls, New York State has cemented its place in history as the birthplace of the women’s rights movement, and I know I would not be here as the first female Governor were it not for the brave women who have blazed the trails that I have walked,” Governor Hochul said. “This month and every month, we will continue working hard to honor the legacy of all those who fought tirelessly for equality and ensure that we build a brighter, more just future for our daughters and granddaughters.”
In her Women's History Month proclamation, Governor Hochul highlighted this year’s national theme, “Celebrating Women Who Tell our Stories,” honoring New York women who used their vision and talent as writers, journalists, publishers, photographers, and poets to enrich society.
The landmarks to be lit in honor of Women's History Month include:
- One WTC
- Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge
- Kosciuszko Bridge
- The H. Carl McCall SUNY Building
- State Education Building
- State Fairgrounds – Main Gate & Expo Center
- Niagara Falls
- The “Franklin D. Roosevelt” Mid-Hudson Bridge
- Grand Central Terminal - Pershing Square Viaduct
- Albany International Airport Gateway
- Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal
- Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
- Empire State Plaza
