SENATOR RIVERA'S COVERAGE FOR ALL BILL PASSES THE SENATE FOR
SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
This week, Senator Rivera's Coverage For All bill (S2237A/A3020A) passed the State Senate. In a statement, Senator Rivera expressed his appreciation to his Senate Majority colleagues for passing this bill for second consecutive year as well as his dismay about the Executive not including this common sense public health proposal in this year's budget, which could have saved hundreds of millions by offering health coverage to New Yorkers depending on emergency Medicaid for care. This vote represents another opportunity for the Legislature to pass this law before session and seek approval with the 1332 federal waiver. He then urges his colleagues in the Assembly to follow in the Senate's footsteps and pass this momentous legislation this session too.
SENATOR RIVERA'S HEALTH COMMITTEE PASSES 21 BILLS
This week, 21 bills passed the New York State Senate Health Committee, including Senator Rivera's bills to expand protections for patients by increasing violations for poor safety conditions in adult care facilities (S5472A) and establishing a specialized health home program for certain New Yorkers with a physical disability (S4789).
SENATOR RIVERA JOINS LABOR UNIONS AT SAFE STAFFING RALLY
This week, Senator Rivera joined a strong labor coalition in an effort to ensure that hospitals and nursing homes adhere to the historic safe staffing laws he passed three years ago. The law required hospital administrators and health care workers to form facility-specific committees that would collectively develop their own staffing ratio plans. Those plans, which were due at the start of last year, would be enforced at each facility.
In the past year, there have been over 8000 complaints filed by CWA workers reporting that hospitals have failed to comply with the law. These laws must be enforced to improve conditions for patients and nurses so that our state can continue to lead the nation.

2024 WOMEN OF DISTINCTION CEREMONY
Senator Rivera was honored to name Sue Ellen Dodell as the 33rd Senate District’s 2024 Woman of Distinction. Ms. Dodell received the award for her efforts in mobilizing more than 50,000 NYC elderly and disabled retirees to fight the City’s attempt to move them from traditional Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan. Senator Rivera congratulates Ms. Dodell for her well-deserved honor.

This week, Senator Rivera joined host Tamara Czyzyk for the First Sing! with the Senator at KRVC. Senator Rivera joined community members in singing karaoke to Country, Rock, and Pop Hits from the 2000s. NYC DOT LAUNCHES TRUCK ROUTE REDESIGN PORTAL
In 2023, the New York City Council passed Local Law 171 requiring NYC DOT to redesign the city truck route network to enhance safety, increase visibility, reduce traffic congestion, and improve the overall freight roadway network.
Today NYC DOT launched its Truck Route Network Redesign Public Feedback Portal!
The Portal will allow the public and freight industry to learn about the city’s truck route network and provide feedback. The public is able to comment and provide feedback through identifying issues and concerns of the current network via an interactive map. Feedback will help inform NYC DOT on how and where we can look to improve movement of trucks on city streets.
