MAYOR ADAMS MARKS CITYWIDE DAY OF MOURNING ONE WEEK AFTER JET SET NIGHTCLUB TRAGEDY BY ANNOUNCING CITY HALL TO BE LIT IN DOMINICAN COLORS TONIGHT

Tuesday, April 15th Marks Citywide Day of Mourning for At Least 226 People  Who Tragically Lost Their Lives at Jet Set Nightclub in Santo Domingo

New York City Mayor Eric Adams today announced that City Hall will be lit in the Dominican colors — red, white, and blue — tonight to mark a citywide day of mourning, following the devastating nightclub collapse in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic one week ago. The collapse has already claimed the lives of at least 226 individuals and left more than 150 more injured.

“As mayor of the city with the largest Dominican community outside the Dominican Republic, I mourn the loss of at least 226 people who tragically lost their lives at the Jet Set nightclub, but as a brother, my heart is broken thinking of all our family,” said Mayor Adams. “This is a painful moment for so many in our city. The red, white, and blue lights illuminating City Hall tonight will serve as both a memorial to the lives lost and a reminder to their loved ones that New York City prays and stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Dominican Republic. Our administration continues to explore every way to provide support and resources to aid in the Dominican Republic’s recovery efforts.”

Mayor Adams additionally ordered all flags on all City buildings and stationary flagstaffs throughout the five boroughs to be lowered to half-staff this past weekend, from sunrise on Saturday, April 12, 2025, to sunset on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
