State Senator Gustavo Rivera on the Public Service Commission's Approval of Con Edison Rate Hikes

GOVERNMENT HEADER

““It is outrageous that the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) unanimously voted for rate hikes for electricity and gas despite being widely opposed by New York City's Con Edison consumers. New Yorkers face increases on electric bills of 3.5% this year, 3.2% in 2027 and 3.1% in 2028.

Working families in The Bronx are already struggling to make ends meet. New Yorkers received notice of these hikes while worrying about affording groceries, health insurance, and rent.

We shouldn't have to pay higher bills because corporations like Con Edison care more about shareholder value than their customers. We need PSC reform, a recommitment to investing in public renewable energy, and a clean energy transition for every customer with legislation like my Bucks for Boilers Act (S3476A).’
