Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson - Community Resources & Updates

Dear Neighbor,

As we welcome the summer season, I am proud to share important investments and initiatives that support our Bronx families and communities.

This month, we celebrate the launch of New York City's first-ever 2-K program, a historic investment that will provide 2,000 free early childhood education seats and expand access to affordable, high-quality care for working families.

The application period for the new 2-K programs begins today and closes on Friday, June 26, 2026.

To find a provider:

  1.    Visit MySchools
  2.    Create an account or log in
  3.    On your Dashboard, click "Get Started" next to "2-K"
  4.    On the "Welcome to 2-K Admissions" page, review your child’s information and click "Get Started"
  5.    Search for programs and apply

We also recognize June as Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time to honor victims, support survivors, and recommit ourselves to building safer communities. I encourage all Bronx residents to wear orange throughout the month as a symbol of solidarity and our shared commitment to ending gun violence.

This week, we will join community partners, advocates, and residents for a press conference kicking off Gun Violence Awareness Month, followed by a Youth Job Fair as a part of the Future Focus Bronx employment initiative, connecting our Bronx youth to employment opportunities, resources, and pathways to success. Click here for a list of free and low-cost summer programming across the city for our youth and families.

Warm Regards,

Vanessa L. Gibson

Bronx Borough President

IN THE COMMUNITY

For Memorial Day, we joined veterans, community leaders, residents, and the Bronx District Attorney's Office to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day serves as an important opportunity to reflect on their courage, recognize the sacrifices made by military families, and express our gratitude to the veterans who continue to serve our communities long after their time in uniform.

The Bronx was filled with culture, pride, and Boricua spirit as we proudly joined the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade! We were especially proud to join the Governor's Office to posthumously recognize Willie Colón - a legendary son of the Bronx whose music, advocacy, and cultural impact helped shape generations and helped to elevate Puerto Rican pride around the world.

Thank you to the Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee for 40 years of preserving culture, uplifting community, and keeping the spirit of El Condado de la Salsa alive.¡Que viva Puerto Rico!

We recently joined Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, District Attorney Darcel Clark, Council Member Amanda Farias, and the NYPD to announce the launch of two new Patrol Boroughs in the Bronx.

With the creation of Patrol Boroughs Bronx North & Bronx South, each command will have more administrative staff and nearly 200 additional police officers to support precincts within their jurisdictions.

This announcement is a major step forward in supporting public safety efforts in our borough and ensuring our communities receive the necessary resources to keep our residents and their families safe.

The Bronx Riviera is back !!!

We joined NYC Parks, elected officials, and community partners to celebrate the reopening of the Orchard Beach Pavilion, a beloved Bronx landmark that has welcomed thousands of visitors to our borough's waterfront.

This long-awaited restoration includes upgraded amenities, improved accessibility, and enhancements that preserve the pavilion's historic character. We are proud to have contributed funding toward this project and look forward to welcoming Bronxites back to Orchard Beach for a summer of recreation, community, and celebration.

We joined NYC Parks, elected officials, and community partners to celebrate the completion of Grant Park, a transformative investment that has turned formerly vacant lots into nearly five acres of vibrant open space for Bronx residents.

With a new natural turf field, improved accessibility, enhanced security features, and upgrades to the beloved Dred Scott Bird Sanctuary, this project creates new opportunities for recreation, gathering, and community connection.

We are proud to have contributed $500,000 to this project and look forward to generations of Bronx families enjoying this beautiful new community asset.

BRONX WEEK 2026

We were proud to recognize and honor an extraordinary group of individuals whose achievements, leadership, and impact continue to uplift our borough and inspire generations. As part of this cherished Bronx Week tradition, we bestowed upon them one of our highest honors — their names placed on the Bronx Walk of Fame at Lou Gehrig Plaza along the Grand Concourse.

Congratulations to our 2026 inductees: Lenny "Lenny S" Santiago, Darlene Rodriguez, Darrin D. Henson, Roberto "Fanum" Escanio, and our People's Choice Award inductee in Culinary Arts, Jimmy Rodriguez, for leaving an enduring mark on the Bronx and beyond.

We celebrated our 54th Annual Bronx Ball at Bally`s Golf Links, where we presented the Key to the Borough to the Honorable Robert Abrams, former Bronx Borough President, in recognition of his distinguished public service, enduring leadership, and lasting impact on our borough.

We also proudly honored this year's Bronx Tourism Award recipients, Pregones/PRTT and The Bronx Children's Museum, for their extraordinary contributions to Bronx culture, arts, education, and tourism. Through their work, they continue to inspire, uplift, and showcase the very best of the Bronx.

We ended Bronx Week 2026 with our annual Bronx Unity & Culture Parade, celebrating the brilliance and future of our borough, to our Food & Arts Cultural Festival, showcasing the rich culture, creativity, and flavors of the Bronx, and an unforgettable Concert Finale filled with music, energy, and Bronx pride!

Special shout-out to our amazing parade host, Marissa Santorelli of News 12 The Bronx, for helping make the celebration even more memorable!

Our Bronx Week 2026 Finale Concert was one for the books. Thank you to our incredible concert performers: Viti Ruiz, Rey De La Paz, Mellisa Jones & The Special Occasion Band, Grupo Típico Rhadames Rodriguez, and the Bronx's very own - Remy Ma - for bringing the house down and closing out Bronx Week in spectacular fashion!

And a huge thank you to our sponsors for their continued support and partnership in helping make these celebrations possible.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the culture, talent, diversity, and spirit that make the Bronx truly one of a kind. Until next year..
