On Friday, September 18, State Senator Gustavo Rivera and the Hands Off NYC Coalition will come together to host a community day of action and conduct Know Your Rights outreach at schools in Senator Rivera’s district. The event aims to ensure that educators, school administrators, and staff — as well as students and their families — are informed about their constitutional rights regardless of immigration status.
As part of Hands Off NYC’s (HONYC) fourth Community Weekend of Action, happening September 18th-20th, Senator Rivera and members of HONYC will hold short and easy-to-follow sessions to train community members on how to spread the word and talk to their neighbors about their constitutional rights in light of a heightened presence of immigration enforcement agents in The Bronx and across New York City.
Senator Rivera’s office is the only Bronx distribution hub for Hands Off NYC, where they’ve distributed thousands of “Know Your Rights” palm cards available in English, Spanish, French, Bangla, and Arabic; Private signage to designate staff- or student-only areas, along with “Family Planning” and immigration policy brochures available in English and Spanish.
