MOUNT VERNON MAN INDICTED FOR ALLEGEDLY KILLING HIS NIECE

Victim Shot Multiple Times Inside Her Vehicle as She Was Leaving Her Job

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark today announced that a Mount Vernon man has been indicted on second-degree Murder for allegedly shooting his niece to death in a dispute over family property.

District Attorney Clark said, “This is a sad situation where a dispute among two family members over real estate turned deadly. The defendant is accused of fatally shooting his niece as she was leaving her job. A young woman’s life has been cut short, and the family is left reeling from this shocking act of violence.”

District Attorney Clark said that defendant Michael Foster, 58, of Mount Vernon, was arraigned on September 9, 2026, on second-degree Murder and other related charges by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Alvin Yearwood. Remand is continued. Foster is due back in court on November 12, 2026.

According to the investigation, on July 13, 2026, at approximately 11:56 p.m., the victim, Julia Anderson, had finished her shift at her job and was in her car near Murdock Avenue and Nereid Avenue getting ready to drive home. Foster, who had been lying in wait, approached the vehicle from the passenger side and fired multiple shots. Anderson was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi less than an hour later. Foster was arrested on July 15. Investigators learned that Foster and Anderson had been quarreling for some time about ownership of the house on Bell Avenue in Mount Vernon where they both lived.

District Attorney Clark also thanked Detective Frank Delgado and Detective Patrick Horkan of the New York City Police Department for their work in the investigation.

An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
