Defendant Was on Parole for Attempted Murder in a Separate Case
Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark today announced that a Bronx man has been indicted on Weapon Possession, Resisting Arrest and other charges for bringing a loaded firearm into the Hall of Justice.
District Attorney Clark said, “This defendant was on parole when he allegedly snuck a loaded gun into the Hall of Justice. He then proceeded to cause chaos once inside the courtroom, resisting Court Officers’ demands. I thank the Officers who discovered this weapon on the defendant after performing a pat down search.”
District Attorney Clark said that defendant Jamal Frett, 26, the Bronx, was arraigned on October 21, 2026, on Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct charges by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Pamela Goldsmith. Remand is continued. He is due back in court on December 10, 2026.
According to the investigation, on September 21, 2026, at approximately 11 a.m., at the Bronx Hall of Justice, the defendant was seated in the gallery of a courtroom to attend the hearing of an associate. When a court officer asked Frett to remove his hood from over his head, the defendant yelled at the officers, which brought the court proceedings to a halt. Court officers escorted Frett to the lobby, where he allegedly resisted their efforts to put him under arrest. They then took him to a holding cell where they performed a pat down search. During this search, court officers discovered a .380 semi-automatic Ruger pistol loaded with 5 rounds in the magazine.
District Attorney Clark thanked the New York State Office of Court Administration along with Major Eugene Hunter, Sgt. Joel Ramdeen, and the Court Officers from Bronx County Supreme Court for their work in the investigation.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
