HERNANDEZ CASTS EARLY VOTE, ANNOUNCES PLAN TO AUDIT VOTER ROLLS FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

After casting his ballot during early voting on the Lower East Side, Republican candidate for New York State Comptroller Joseph Hernandez today announced a plan to audit New York’s statewide voter rolls to find and remove illegal immigrants and other ineligible registrants.

New Jersey shows what happens when no one checks. In July, Governor Mikie Sherrill disclosed that over 6,000 non-citizens were allowed to register to vote. The Department of Homeland Security has said the number on New Jersey’s rolls may be as high as 35,000.

In 2021, the New York City Council passed a law to open city elections to more than 800,000 non-citizens.

“Voting is a sacred right, and every citizen should exercise it,” said Hernandez. “But this right is reserved for citizens. I came to this country at seven legally, worked hard, and earned mine. No one should be able to cancel out that vote.”

“New Jersey only found its problem because someone finally looked,” Hernandez continued. “When I’m Comptroller, I’ll finally audit our voter rolls so every legal vote counts here in New York.”
