When it comes to campaigning, our motto has always been to focus on our record, and not give any extreme right-wing opponents any free publicity.
But even if we don’t talk about them much, the reality is we have to take our Republican challengers seriously. In 2020, Alexandria was in the second most expensive House race in the country. Her challenger raised and spent more than $10 million against her. And even when our challengers don’t win, the disinformation they sow can discredit our movement if we don’t fight back.
Now, we officially have a challenger for 2024, and she's starting to fundraise.
Here are a few facts about our opponent:
She paid George Santos a lot of money to consult on the last election. In 2022, she paid George Santos’ consulting firm $110,320 and hers was the only campaign to ever report working with the firm.
Her campaign may have been part of a scam run by George Santos. A donor who gave to Santos had their credit card charged for additional, unauthorized donations — including two maxed-out $2,900 contributions to her campaign. 1
She participated in the January 6 Insurrection rally.
She is associated with the white supremacist Proud Boys and proudly posted a photo of herself with their leaders.
We know that communities in The Bronx, Queens, and across the country support our message and want AOC to stay in Congress – but we need to show it by making sure Alexandria wins again by a considerable margin.
Together we can keep winning and send Alexandria back to Congress for another term to keep fighting for social, economic, racial, and environmental justice for all.
