Hey Friends - Summer days in NYC are here! In honor of the solstice this week, we wanted share some ways to get involved in your community while the weather is warm.
Let’s jump in!
1. Visit your nearest GrowNYC Greenmarket
The GrowNYC Greenmarket network is growing, offering more seasonal delights from May through November. Throughout the season New Yorkers (and visitors) can find a bounty of fresh, local products at 45 Greenmarkets throughout the city.
The big picture: GrowNYC works with over 200 regional producers to transform open space across the five boroughs into vibrant centers of community activity, ensure fresh, local food is accessible to all New Yorkers, and provide a crucial sales channel for farmers and producers in the Northeast.
In case you missed it: All Greenmarket locations accept SNAP/EBT, Debit/Credit, Healthfirst OTC cards (LIP and CC members only), WIC & Senior FMNP coupons, Fresh Connect Bucks, and Greenmarket Bucks. Customers using SNAP/EBT/P-EBT that spend $2, receive a bonus $2 Health Buck, up to $10 per day.
2. Register for our July Virtual Volunteer Orientation
What's new: Interested in volunteering with GrowNYC? Join our online orientation where we will provide information about GrowNYC, local agriculture and food access, as well as current and upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Orientation is open to all, however, GrowNYC volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. The volunteer orientation is required to participate in our volunteer opportunities.
3. Get Involved at a Community Garden!
NYC is home to the largest community garden network in the nation and here’s no time like the present to join or visit your nearest garden space!
Interested in joining or visiting one of NYC's 600 existing community gardens? Find one at NYC Parks GreenThumb or check out GrowNYC’s garden map to see what green spaces we’ve worked with in the past.
Plan a visit to GrowNYC’s Teaching Garden. Our acre urban farm on Governors Island is FREE and OPEN to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 12 PM - 4 PM until the end of October!
