Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson - Community Resources & Updates

Dear Neighbor,

Thank you for joining us for another week in review.

We hope you had a safe, fun, and restful Labor Day weekend with friends and family. Last weekend, we were proud to celebrate the grand finale of our Summer Concert Series in Co-Op City in partnership with the Bronx Night Market and Riverbay Corporation. The series brought live music and cuisines from around the world to our northeast Bronx community. We want to thank everyone who joined us as we traveled to Fordham Plaza and various parks across the borough, providing free entertainment for our residents and families.

We are also excited to announce that this Thursday, our teachers and students will return to school. To our incredible scholars, I want you to know how proud we are of your hard work and dedication. This year, embrace every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. Remember, every great achievement starts with a single step, and you have all the tools you need to succeed. To our dedicated teachers and professors, thank you for your unwavering commitment to education. Your passion and dedication are shaping the future of our community. We are here to support you in every way possible because we know that your impact extends far beyond the classroom.

Lastly, applications are open to join our Bronx Youth Council (BYC)! The BYC works alongside our team to research policy issues, assist with planning youth events, and explore careers in public service and advocacy. Click here for more information.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 718-590-3500 or email us at webmail@bronxbp.nyc.gov.

IN THE COMMUNITY

What an incredible day at the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn as we celebrated Caribbean culture and pride in New York City! A huge thank you to everyone who came out with their flags and made this parade so special. Your energy, unity, and spirit are what make our community so amazing. Here’s to many more years of celebrating our rich heritage together!

What a fantastic way to close out summer! Our concert finale in Co-op City, in partnership with the Bronx Night Market and Riverbay Corporation, was a true celebration of music and community. Thank you to everyone who joined us for an unforgettable evening of great tunes, delicious food, and wonderful company. Here’s to celebrating our vibrant community and many more events like this in the future.

As we prepare for our students to return to school, I am excited to announce the opening of a new Middle School in Highbridge!

MS 644, the Bronx Debate Academy at the Aurelia Green Educational Campus, will open its doors this fall with a talented team of educators and staff committed to empowering and uplifting our young scholars.

It was an honor to tour this new facility that we advocated for during our tenure in the City Council, named after my political mentor who dedicated her career to supporting our youth.

I want to thank everyone who played a role in making this project a reality. We look forward to the official ribbon-cutting!
