A new 60,000-square-foot cold storage and distribution facility known as the New York State Regional Food Hub has officially opened at 298 Halleck Street in Hunts Point, the Bronx. Operated by GrowNYC, the $45 million project was backed by $19 million in state funding through the New York City Regional Economic Development Council. The Hub is designed to scale up the distribution of locally sourced food from approximately 3 million pounds to 20 million pounds annually by 2034, creating more than 200 new jobs while enhancing food access across underserved New York communities.

Developed as a joint initiative between state and city entities, the facility significantly expands GrowNYC’s distribution footprint, quadrupling its capacity. It will serve a wide range of wholesale buyers, including institutions and restaurants, and support expanded partnerships with nonprofit organizations through programs such as New York Food for New York Families. The project also aims to strengthen supply chains by enabling small- and mid-sized New York State farms to reach downstate markets more efficiently, with infrastructure to support food processing and procurement for public and private buyers.

The new Hub addresses urgent food insecurity issues that were exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the number of food-insecure residents in New York City surged from 1.4 million to nearly 2 million. As part of a larger roadmap established by the New York State–New York City Regional Food Hubs Task Force, the facility is a cornerstone of a broader effort to build a more resilient and equitable food system that connects upstate agricultural producers with urban consumers.

Transit nearby the New York State Regional Food Hub includes the Hunts Point Avenue station, served by the 6 train. Additional nearby service includes the 2 and 5 trains at Intervale Avenue and Simpson Street stations.
